Fort Lauderdale Hospital is a fully licensed, 100-bed, private hospital that specializes in the treatment of drug addiction, mental health issues and co-occurring disorders for adults and adolescents. The Plant Operations Technician was established for the purpose(s) of providing maintenance services as needed and/or assigned; assisting in a wide variety of maintenance activities; addressing immediate operational and/or safety concerns; assisting skilled trades; and ensuring that tools, materials and vehicles are maintained in good working order and are available at job site when needed.

Job Requirements


  • High School graduate or GED required

  • A two year technical or trade school/technical coursework or Associate’s degree preferred

  • CFC Handling Certification is strongly preferred

  • Minimum of three years’ work experience in hospital and/or healthcare facility

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

  • Basic computer skills and the ability to learn new job-related software



  • Must have experience in operating a variety of hand/power tools and equipment ensuring proper safety precautions.

  • Must have an understanding of electrical and refrigeration theory, as well as experience in the area of building maintenance and mechanical engineering; including but not limited to patching drywall holes.


Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge and the ability to troubleshoot and complete routine maintenance with HVAC, plumbing, electrical, life safety and building automation
  • Have working knowledge of standard maintenance tools and experience in their proper use
  • Ability to understand and interpret manufacturer’s specifications and written operational procedures

  • Excellent interpersonal skills to ensure teamwork and positive relations with patients, guests, and co-workers

  • Be able to take direction and follow instructions

  • Must be safety conscious

  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks to ensure accuracy and timely completion

  • 24 hour availability for emergencies and as part of an on-call rotation.

  • Capable of doing extensive walking, climbing of stairs and ladders, lifting/carrying a minimum of 50 pounds by applying proper body mechanics.

  • Willingness to work on special projects as required.

  • Sensitive and aware of diverse cultures and their practices.
