Newport News Behavioral Health Center has an excellent career opportunity for an experienced Maintenance Technician to join our team of dedicated professionals.

The candidate selected will be responsible for the following:

  1. Assists the Director in planning and performing preventative maintenance on all buildings and equipment.

  2. Repairs the buildings and equipment as needed due to failure or routine deterioration.

  3. Takes immediate action on any safety issues within the facility to ensure resident, patient and staff safety.

  4. Reports any maintenance issues to the Director of Support Services that cannot be repaired by Maintenance Department.

  5. Inspects all end-user electrical equipment and outlet devices for safety and compliance with hospital standards, state licensing, and the Joint Commission.

  6. Assists the Director with implementing and enforcing safety and fire policies and procedures by conducting safety inspections and fire drills. Assists with staff training as needed.

Job Requirements

Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.  Must have at least two years of maintenance experience, preferably in a hospital setting.  Must be able to demonstrate experience in all of the following areas: electrical and distribution systems (electrical certifications not required), general plumbing, water and sewer systems, general heating and air conditioning diagnosis (HVAC certifications not required) , drywall work and painting, gardening and landscaping, powered equipment,  automotive upkeep, and safety and fire protection.
