Position Description:

POSITION PURPOSE

The Learning Manager is responsible for supervising the development and design of learning deliverables to meet the objectives defined by the Learning Department. It is their responsibility to ensure excellence by developing and managing the design and development process. To do this the individual must be able to give guidance to a team of writers/designers and be able to effectively collaborate with other internal learning teams, SSC functional groups and third party vendors. This person will be responsible for overseeing the design, production, and implementation of learning deliverables.

MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Program Management – 40%

  • Partners with Program Manager, Learning to develop resource plan, review status of projects, and develop contingency plans
  • Collaborates with Learning Strategy Manager to ensure proposed learning solutions are flight-ready for design and development
  • Provides support, guidance, and quality review to learning projects
  • Creates and manages Instructional Designers work plans 

Team Leadership – 40%

  • Ensures team capabilities by focusing on professional development and skill enhancement for Instructional Designers
  • Responsible for supervising and managing a team of learning professionals
  • Assists with staffing, hiring, and onboarding of new associates

Process Implantation – 20%

  • Drives creating processes, procedures, and templates that will result in effective learning solutions
  • Collaborates with stakeholders to evaluate the effectiveness of learning solutions
  • Collaborates with Program Manager, Learning in intake, forecasting, and prioritization 

Minimum Requirements

  • Must be 18 years or older          
  • Must be legally permitted to work in the United States  
  • Must pass Drug Test      
  • Must pass Background Check    
  • Must pass pre-employment test if applicable     
  • 3 or more years in training or related work experience   
  • Advanced knowledge of project management principles and working knowledge of MS Project 
  • The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job 

NATURE AND SCOPE

  • Typically reports to a Sr. Manager
  • Accountable for direct supervision of the work activities of others. In addition to personnel issues -- including selection, termination, performance appraisal and professional development of subordinates.

ENVIRONMENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS

Environment:

Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.

Travel:

Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, Human Resource Development, Organizational Behavior and Development, Industrial and Organizational Psychology, or related field     
  • Experience in education or learning-related field, or similar work experience        
  • Experience creating training materials for retail organizations     
  • Experience creating learning content that engages audiences using multiple modalities and learning approaches     
  • Familiarity with principles of adult learning and how to adapt them to multiple contexts           
  • Experience managing a team to achieve organizational goals      
  • Ability to intuitively understand what the audience needs to know and how they should best consume it based on their context
  • Strong passion for new learning technology tools            
  • Basic knowledge of media development tools and processes      
  • Ability to communicate and present information to various groups within THD        
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills 
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and Outlook             
  • Excellent interpersonal skills      
  • Advanced knowledge of instructional design and adult learning theories
