Primary Responsibilities:

  • Clearly articulate business value derived from data quality approaches/initiatives; define and implement practical solutions; and construct efficient methods for measuring changes in data quality across the enterprise

  • Shape and influence a data-driven, decision-based culture

  • Develop innovative approaches to implement Data Quality as part of the cross-functional Insurance Solutions Data Governance Program. This will require complex analysis and independent thinking for success in this critical responsibility

  • Coordinate and support Data Quality, including creating a roadmap, supporting project plans, reporting, process for data quality issue resolution

  • Support other Data Governance initiatives including Data Use & Rights, Data Steward Community, Analytics Governance, Business/Data Rules, and Metadata Management

  • Develop control structures within an enterprise environment to ensure the accuracy and quality of data across all critical applications, processes, repositories, reports, extracts, and any other data management process

  • Provide thought leadership and participate with projects that involve any of the upstream or downstream data flows and processes

  • Ensure controls are in place over critical data elements between applications to ensure the data integrity by performing data integrity gap analysis

  • Coordinate the resolution of data integrity gaps by working with business owners and IT

  • Work with business partners to gather and understand functional requirements, develop complex queries and provide reports

  • Develop process and procedure documentation in support of Data Governance initiatives, as needed, while collaborating with Corporate and other segment’s Data Governance Programs

  • Represent Data Governance on IT PMO projects, as needed

  • Facilitate Data Governance Data Quality meetings and communications

  • Interface with other UnitedHealth Group businesses and technical areas

  • This Manager position will not have direct reports

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or 3 additional years of related work experience

  • 5+ years of experience documenting processes and procedures that includes the use of Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Visio

  • 3+ years Data Quality experience that includes developing a strong understanding of data quality framework within data lifecycle management and the ability to write various documents such as functional requirements, data quality rules and policy definitions

  • 3+ years of  experience driving data quality issue investigation and resolution

  • 2+ years of experience with SQL, relational and non-relational databases, database structures, and unstructured databases

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree

  • Previous experience in the healthcare industry

  • Previous experience managing teams

  • Previous experience with data quality/stewardship tools such as IDQ, ICG, Collibra, etc.

  • Working knowledge of the insurance industry, including privacy laws and regulations, healthcare data, and consumer experience

  • Ability to think conceptually and analytically with strong problem solving and decision making skills

  • Ability to adapt to changing business and technical needs

  • Ability to work in a team and independently

  • Ability to deliver a high level of customer service

  • Ability to compare technologies and make recommendations to senior members of the team

  • Excellent communications, collaboration, time/project management, problem solving, organizational, and analytical skills
