Description

Cox Automotive is hiring a Payroll Manager for the Employee Service Center.  The Employee Service Center HR Payroll Manager leads a national dedicated team of HR payroll professionals, serving over 28,000 Cox Automotive team members in the United States across various locations in a shared services center environment. The Payroll manager maintains accounting and financial records and reports including various statements, regulatory/compliance and management reports and audits. This position manages and coordinates activities of payroll processing in the Employee Service Center, supporting the HR business partners, managers and team members.  Prepares documents and disburses payroll checks partnering with Cox Enterprises. Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions.

The Employee Service Center Payroll Manager will focus on team member performance, performance metrics, team building, and employee development to ensure team member effectiveness.  The Manager is also responsible for process improvements, work flow efficiency, monitoring of payroll processing for compliance and accuracy, handling projects and escalated customer concerns resulting in a high-level of support and superior customer service. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and direct the work of Payroll Administrators across locations by determining work procedures, preparing work schedules, expediting the workflow, assigning duties and examining work for accuracy and conformance to policies and procedures.
  • Process bi-weekly employee payroll payments on time and through the appropriate channels.                        
  • Develop, lead and motivate the shared service center team through coaching; influence them to take positive action and accountability for their assigned work. Further develop cross-functional partnership with internal and external HR business partners.    
  • Partner and support the Cox Enterprise payroll process for the processing of the Cox Automotive payroll checks, including tax withholdings and other garnishments.
  • Oversee internal payroll and accounting internal and external audits as required and at a minimum on a semi-annual basis.                      
  • Define and Develop performance metrics, monitor team member productivity, and generate appropriate progress reports for review by the leaders.
  • Maintains payroll guidelines by writing and updating policies and procedures.          
  • Create ad hoc queries and reports, with the ability to manipulate data from multiple sources to track individual and team performance to increase Payroll team efficiency.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of Management experience in human resources, payroll or accounting processing service environment required.
  • Shared Services experience in a high volume, large workforce setting highly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of PeopleSoft, Kronos, Oracle or similar HRIS software is required. 
  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office, including MS Excel, is essential. 
  • Experience in processing multi-state payrolls preferred
  • Strong, oral and written communication skills required. Capable of working in a fast paced environment.  Ability to multi-task with strong organizational and analytical skills necessary. Knowledge of HRIS and payroll processing software systems. 
  • Bachelor’s degree required.  Masters Degree or higher education level preferred. SPHR, PHR or CPP certifications are desirable.
