Description: Our commitment to cultivating top talent through training, coaching and development is expanding to include a career development program that transforms high potential career-minded professionals into skilled salespeople. We have a unique opportunity for an individual with a passion for talent development to lead the build out of a new program within Individual Life Insurance. This program will develop and implement an intensive training curriculum that provides select candidates diverse, on-the-job experiences and coaching on all aspects of what it takes to be successful in our highly sought after sales positions. Reporting to the VP of Sales Training, the Manager, Sales Career Development will:

  • Lead the implementation of the first career development rotation program employed by ILI Distribution & Sales for purposes of developing talent internally; lead development of built-from-scratch curriculum, quarterly intensive coached practice (role-play) and other training bootcamps for rotation program associates, Sales Support associates, and other high-potential individuals and teams. Delivery methods will include extensive pre-work, interactive face-to-face training, videotaped practice, and knowledge checks, to ensure that rotation and program objectives are met or exceeded by all participants.
  • Manage career development rotation program entrants throughout all phases of their journey from selection to placement in permanent sales roles and everywhere in between; connect regularly with interim rotation managers, checking in often on performance, progress and challenges. Adjust training curriculum to meet needs of each individual associate, and conduct extensive 1:1 coaching at every stage of employees time spent in the program.
  • Design from scratch and Serve as central point of contact and dot connector for job-related questions, helping rotation program associates and select Internal Wholesalers understand the context for their work in each role, and exactly how it will prepare them for their future position(s) in Distribution & Sales.
  • Lead Distribution & Sales Internship strategy, serving as central partner to ILI Human Resources and Corporate Campus Recruiting partners. Work with Sales Leaders to assess internship needs and establish parameters around a D&S specific program, formal development plans, and conversations regarding future job offers, including entry into the rotation program.
  • Lead the design and execution of a formal Distribution & Sales mentorship program with a dual-focus: first, to bolster the rotation program and other tracks to front-line sales roles, and second, for all D&S associates personal development.
  • Work with our broader team to optimize the use of our newly launched online learning platform to create from scratch a robust suite of eLearning programs, best practice videos, and other on-demand assets that support all possible sales career trajectories.
  • Demonstrate technical competence as an enterprise resource with a strong understanding of the Life Insurance business, Independent and Institutional Sales landscapes, products, sales concepts, services, and processes.


  • This position can be based in either Hartford, CT or Plymouth, MN; remote employees will be considered only with extensive references
  • Strong preference for a minimum of 5 - 7 years of experience in a training or communications, Sales position (especially in the Life or other Financial Services industry) or, proven experience in sales or selling Prudentials Life products
  • Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision, in a fast paced environment with tight deadlines
  • Superior communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Must possess the ability to listen for and draw out needs, know what is important, and execute accordingly
  • Creative or PowerPoint design skills that include organizing information in a visually appealing, effective and understandable manner
  • Strong influencing and motivation skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to juggle multiple priorities at one time
  • Advanced level of proficiency in MS Word and PowerPoint
  • BA or BS degree, or equivalent work experience
  • Willingness to travel 30% of the time
