Job Summary: The Medical Economics Sr. Analyst works primarily with Prominence Health Plan stakeholders in developing, defining, and orchestrating analytics related to researching and analyzing drivers of medical cost trends. The focus of this position is to work closely with the various departments at Prominence including finance, clinical, network etc. to identify medical cost trends and assist with the development and identification of actionable items to mitigate trends. This will include actions related to benefits, provider contracts, revenue enhancement, partnerships, or utilization management, and/or measuring the impact of interventions previously implemented. The incumbent will work cooperatively with Prominence leadership and departments; interact with peers at UHS facilities and third party vendors, and subject matter experts at UHS Corporate in decision support and informatics. The incumbent is expected to exhibit independent decision-making and critical thinking skills. The application of sophisticated analytical capabilities and tools is required. The incumbent must be comfortable working with tight deadlines, minimal direction, and shifting priorities.

The Medical Economics Sr. Analyst will provide accurate and timely analytical support to Prominence stakeholders related to company-wide strategic decision making, revenues, and medical costs. The incumbent will be skilled in both data aggregation and managed care specific acumen to be able to interpret and communicate data, findings and provide accurate recommendation as required to leadership team. At times, this will require the ability to interpret the internal customer’s needs or situation and create an applicable solution. The Sr. Analyst will work across multiple business units and will be tasked with duties which bridge the gap between Information Technology and business objectives, partnering with various stakeholders to develop requested data and reports.

Regulatory Requirements:
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Math, Statistics or related field. Master’s Degree preferred.
• Experience: 3 - 5 years’ experience in Medical Economics, Financial Analysis, or Healthcare Cost Analysis. Health care/Managed care experience preferred.
• Project Management experience is a plus

Language Skills:
• Ability to effectively communicate in English, both verbally and in writing.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Knowledge of health care medical economics from a health plan perspective
• Experience analyzing large sets of data, preferably medical cost data
• Must be able to work independently; providing management with status updates
• Multi-task; establish priorities personally and for other staff
• Self-starter, resourceful and able to execute projects in a fluid and fast paced environment
• Good organization, management, communication and reporting skills
• SQL experience and familiarity for data retrieval and reporting purposes
• Familiarity with relational databases
• Understanding and familiarity with data warehouse platforms and tools
• Ability to research complex data models and understand end business needs. Must be able to create reports from scratch for the purpose of directing business and operational decisions.
• Advanced knowledge of database concepts, use of data dictionaries and record viewers and other tools and required to map data elements needed for reporting is required.
• Familiarity with standard financial and operational concepts, as well as an understanding of healthcare finance needed.
• Excellent Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, Access, Visio, Power-point, Publisher, etc.)
• Experience using data analysis software (i.e., SAS, SPSS, SQL, Python, R, etc.) and health care analytical tools such as Verisk, Crimson Pop Health, Deerwalk, or similar tools
• Experience with working data visualization tools such Qlik, SSAS, Tableau is a plus
