Medical Records Coder

Position Summary

The Certified Medical Records Coder is responsible for carrying out the activities of the Health Information Services Department in the maintenance of all patient health information,   Applies the appropriate diagnostic and procedure codes to individual patient health information for data retrieval and analysis and claims processing.  Maintains confidentiality of medical records.  Performs duties in accordance with company mission, values, and behavioral standards. Provides departmental coverage in H.I.M. Directors absence

Job Requirements


  • Experience: One to three years in medical records department and secretarial background required.  Psychiatric setting preferred.
  • Education: At least 1 year of previous experience in health information management and direct experience in a health care psychiatric facility preferred.   Work experience as a coder or strong training background in coding preferred. 
  • Licensure/Certification: RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P, CPC or CPC-HP.
