Job Description

The Medical Records Supervisor establishes and maintains adequate health information systems in compliance with all applicable laws, standards and policies.  These systems include forms control, chart audits, record security, the release of information process, transcription services and filing.  The Medical Records Supervisor also supervises the staff members providing medical record coding services.  The Supervisor is responsible for coordinating the daily activities of the Medical Records Department and ensures all medical records and related documents are easily located, appropriately filed, assembled and maintained, delivered in a timely manner and analyzed.  The Medical Records Supervisor demonstrates the consistent ability to maintain confidentiality and utilize the “minimum necessary” rule.

Job Requirements

Education:  Minimum graduate of an accredited college program with an Associate’s Degree in Medical Office Administration or Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Record Information or related area.

Experience:  Three (3) years’ experience in Medical Records/Health Information Management.  At least one (1) year in medical surgical facility and at least one (1) year in residential and/or acute psychiatric facilities preferred.  At least one (1) year of supervisory experience preferred.

Licensure:  Current registration as a Registered Record Administrator by the American Health Information Management Association, RHIA/RHIT required or eligible to sit for exam within 6 months of hire.
