Job Description

The Mental Health Technician creates a safe environment for clients, provides direct supervision of clients, empowers clients, and teaches new tools for coping to clients. The Mental Health Technician provides direct client care under the supervision of the Community Counselor Coordinator and Registered Nurse. Primary responsibilities include the provision of a safe and therapeutic milieu, crisis intervention, individual / family education groups and activities of daily living. Is competent of Verbal De-escalation andis utilized with regard to all clients. Uses the least restrictive approach to behavior management and reflects the same in documentation. Establishes therapeutic relationships with clients and provides assigned client care within the general policies, philosophy, and objectives of the Nursing Department and the facility. Responds to client needs in crisis and acts according to developmental needs of the client to ensure client and unit safety. Completes client rounds timely in accordance with unit requirements and accurately documents client observations on the client observation record (q15) Demonstrates knowledge of various mental health commitments and effect on client treatment. Creates an atmosphere of hope, motivation and enthusiasm in the milieu. All documentation is clear, concise and timely. Utilizes appropriate terminology in all communication / documentation as it pertains to other employees and clients. Understands the need for and maintains appropriate confidentiality at all times when interacting with clients, families, visitors, employees and all other contacts. Exposure to psychiatric clients who may exhibit violent / aggressive behavior. Ability to exercise self-control, able to concentrate amidst distractions. Job Requirements

Bachelors Degree in Psychology, Social Workor related field A minimum of two (2) years experience working with a psychiatric client population. Must
