Kempsville Center for Behavioral Health, founded in 1986, is an 82 bed facility within the city of Norfolk, Virginia. Kempsville Center for Behavioral Health offers comprehensive mental health programs to the state of Virginia. We provide psychiatrically and medically managed acute and residential treatment for children and adolescents with significant impairments in their social and emotional development. We provide quality care to children and adolescents in need using quality, evidence based practice treatments. We are accredited by The Joint Commission (TJC), and are licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia and The Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS). Kempsville Center for Behavioral Health currently has multiple Mental Health Tech positions available. The candidate selected will be responsible for the following:
Serves as a role model for patients to observe and learn socially effective values, attitudes and behaviors. Ensures environment remains safe and normative culture remains positive throughout facility. Contributes to formulation, implementation and revision of the resident individual treatment plan.
The following shifts are available:
Full-time- every other weekend is required
PRN- every other weekend is required
Qualifications: Will be provided documented supervision of therapeutic relationships, therapeutic processes, adolescent growth and development, limit-setting and behavior management, crisis management of aggressive behaviors and CPR. An individual must be able to perform each Essential Function of the job satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities, who are otherwise qualified, to perform the Essential Functions.
Education: Prefer an undergraduate degree in human services, undergraduate degree in non-human services along with three months of experience working with children or an Associate’s degree with three months of experience working with children.
Experience: A minimum of six months of experience working with children. Those with a High School diploma or GED/equivalent and no experience working with children may not work alone, but may be employed as long as they are working directly with the chief administrative officer, program director, case manager, child care supervisor, or a child care worker with one or more years of professional experience working with children until such time experience is met.
Requirements: The Physical Requirements for this position include being able to stand, squat, kneel, sit and lie on the floor for long periods of time. Must be able to climb, run and walk for long periods of time as well. Must be able to lift 50lbs of weight. Must be able to read, write clearly, talk and listen. Able to verbally de-escalate and physically restrain patients/residents when necessary.
