(UHS) is one of the nation's largest and most respected healthcare management companies, operating through its subsidiaries acute care hospitals, behavioral health facilities and ambulatory centers nationwide. The Mental Health Technician (MHT): supports the maintenance of a therapeutic milieu while providing for the direct care, welfare, safety and security of patients/residents with emotional and/or psychological disorders in collaboration with the treatment team, (i.e.; Physicians, Teachers, Recreational, Therapists, Dietitian Nurses, Lead Clinical Staff and Mental Health Technicians). The MHT is responsible for  accompanying and transporting assigned patients. Demonstrates the ability to identify behaviors that require intervention. Escorts clients when leaving the unit for activities and scheduled tests. Able to perform client safety and unit safety checks at scheduled times, documents appropriately. Responsible for one-on-one observation for high-risk clients. Utilizes the principles of verbal -de-escalation.  Is physically able to responsibly utilize the "hands on" part of Crisis Prevention Intervention as a last resort. Demonstrates the ability to set limits for clients and other de-escalation techniques.  Participates in treatment planning, helps identify patient’s problems, needs and strengths. Suggests modifications to treatment plan based on observations of the patient’s behavior. Provides input into discharge planning. Participates in the implementation of the treatment plan by monitoring patient’s progress on daily goals sheet and communicating information regarding patient’s behavior t other members of the treatment team. Paperwork done in appropriate time frame. .Facilitates therapeutic groups tailored to the patients’ age and developmental level of understanding. Encourages and facilitates patients’ participation in therapeutic activities. Supervises patients to ensure their safety and their involvement in treatment; and provides input during shift report. Performs all aspects of client care in an environment that optimizes client safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors. Monitors patient’s compliance with pre and post procedure instructions under the supervision of the RN. Continuously observes clients’ behavior, mental status and activities, notifies RN/LPN of any changes or unusual occurrences. Provides general care, i.e., transferring clients, assisting with ADLs. Performs and records client vital signs, intake and output; notifies RN/LPN of any changes. Orients clients to the unit; takes admission vital signs and records on the Nursing Assessment Form. Participates in client care conferences. Treats clients and families with respect and dignity,. Provides emotional support.

Job Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent.  Prefer candidates with 2 years post High School education in a medical, social services or counseling area.  Must be able to learn to take vital signs and assist patients with activities of daily living.  Must be able to work with patients who may become physically aggressive and practice crisis prevention intervention techniques to ensure the patient's safety.

Must be able to assist with transferring patients and able to lift with assistance over 100lbs.
