Henderson Hospital
Henderson Hospital is a member of The Valley Health System, a network of six acute care hospitals that provide care for patients throughout Southern Nevada and nearby communities. Located in the suburb of Henderson, the 120-bed hospital, which opened in 2016, offers emergency care, surgical services, including an ambulatory surgery center, cardiovascular care, women’s health and maternity services. A level II neonatal intensive care unit is slated to open by late 2017.

 

Job Description

Responsible for the 24 hour management of the assigned unit assuring patient care meets the standard of care.

 

 Essential Job Duties:

Performs responsibilities consistent with hospital safety policies.         

Knows and applies infection control policies and processes when handling and disposing of blood and body fluids.         

Coordinates/integrates inter/intradepartmental services.       

Integrates the services with the hospital’s primary functions. 

Maintains appropriate quality control programs.       

Orients/continuing education of staff in department.

Adheres to and demonstrates Patient Care Standards when functioning as a working supervisor. 

Creates/maintains employee schedules.      

Participates, reports and improves department processes.     

Compiles productivity and variance reports.

Participates in department/hospital wide chart audits and implements actions to ensure compliance.              

Functions as an active member of committees, as needed.     

              

Department Specific Requirements

 

Applies the nursing process to the following ER-specific patients:         

Dental, ear, nose, and throat emergencies   

Ocular emergencies          

Abdominal, gynecological, and obstetrical emergencies          

Surface trauma emergencies          

Orthopedic emergencies  

Cardiopulmonary emergencies      

Neurological emergencies

Multiple trauma 

Psychiatric emergencies   

Toxicological emergencies

General medical emergencies         

Triages emergency department patients.     

Accurately interprets monitored rhythms and intervenes according to unit standards.    

Monitors and accurately documents the use of restraints.      

Administers and monitors IV antiarrhythmics and other cardiac medications appropriately.          

Demonstrates application of pre/intra/post conscious sedation standards according to policies and procedures.

Employees in positions involving patient charting and related functions, must possess competency in use of technology and computers.

Complete control over multiple departments with dissimilar services or Director Positions reporting directly to them.

Ensures staff's compliance with policy and procedures.         

Completes/reviews all performance appraisals in a timely manner.    

Motivates and coaches staff to ensure maximum productivity.           

Meets agreed upon deadlines or negotiates due date revisions prior to deadline.          

Ensures efficient utilization of resources.   

Sets and ensures departmental standards.

Resolves personnel issues and consults with Human Resources as appropriate.             

Demonstrates/ensures timely and effective selection of staff.             

During the past 12 months has demonstrated the ability to retain staff, thereby minimizing turnover.              

Mentors and develops staff for promotional opportunities.  

Conducts regularly scheduled department meetings with minutes.    

Develops and reviews budgets in a timely manner. 

Maintains operating expenses in line with budgeting guidelines and takes corrective action when necessary.          

Develops departmental policy and procedures.       

Provides guidance/counsel and participates in the negotiating of contracts.    

Reviews contracts/vendors for efficiency and cost effectiveness.       

Establish departmental goals.        

Functions as an active member of committees, as needed.   

Makes suggestions/recommendations for improved operations to the department, facility.       

Effectively communicates both orally and in writing.              

 

 

Job Requirements

Education: Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing                                                                                                                                                 
Experience: Minimum of three (3) years clinical experience and a minimum of two (2) years progressive management experience preferred.                                                                                                                                               
License/Certification: Current RN license in the State of Nevada.  Current BCLS Certification.  Current PALS Certification.  Current ACLS Certification.                                                                                                                                                  
Other: Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care/service appropriate to the age of the patients served on the assigned unit/department.
