Job Description

The Market Billing Support Services Manager is responsible for leading and managing a team of Revenue Cycle Specialists that are working within each of the IPM Markets to drive consistency in “front-end workflows and business processes that will help the Market maximize revenue and enhance patient satisfaction.  Serves as a liaison between Market Practice Leadership and the Central Billing Office (CBO) to oversee tasks that will enhance the overall revenue cycle continuum.  Manages the relationship along with a full assessment and understanding of each Market’s revenue cycle, including a thorough understanding of systems, processes and service-specific coding and billing requirements.  The Market Billing Support Services Manager identifies gaps between the CBO and Markets, ensures that “best practice” work flows are trained and implemented to drive consistency across all markets and that key metrics are captured, shared and trended.  The Market Billing Support Services Manager coaches, counsels and mentors the Revenue Cycle Specialists to provide superior support that will drive optimal performance and results across the IPM markets.

  1. Develops key performance indicators (KPIs)/dashboard for the IPM Markets to identify trends, track results and identify opportunities for process improvement, enhanced performance and maximized reimbursement. Focus will be on front-end measures that will improve and accelerate revenue cycle processes to achieve higher productivity, faster payments, decreased rework and improved patient services. Establish Market goals to support the business objectives established by IPM.
  2. Captures feedback from the Revenue Cycle Specialists and IPM CBO related to process gaps between the Markets and the CBO.  Plans and coordinates process improvement efforts while driving standardization of work flows (best practices).  Effectively communicates process change and solutions to CBO and Market stakeholders.
  3. Reviews and publishes “front-end” revenue cycle metric results (e.g. copay collection, non-TOS collections, eligibility verification, denial analysis) to IPM CBO.  Assists in focusing the Revenue Cycle Specialists on issues that will positively impact financial performance.   
  4. Demonstrates excellent initiative and judgment. Works independently applying effective approaches to task prioritization, time management, delegation of tasks and meeting deadlines. Exhibits outstanding decision making and customer service.
  5. Conducts monthly one-on-one meetings with direct reports to provide a structured time to provide coaching, discuss accomplishments and review the status of revenue cycle operations within their scope of responsibility.  Discuss areas of professional development as well as goal tracking/reporting, projects and other pertinent topics. Maintains comprehensive and concise documentation of the one on one sessions, next steps and expectations.
  6. Promotes accountability and ownership.  Sets appropriate standards of performance and communicates clear expectations to the Revenue Cycle Specialists. Shows direct and tangible evidence of coaching, mentoring and professional development.
  7. Responsible for the employment hiring process for Revenue Cycle Training and Support Department.  Prepares well thought-out and meaningful performance appraisals for direct reports.  Provides tangible examples of work performance/behaviors that are well documented in the annual appraisal.  Uses the appraisal to both summarize performance as well as focus on opportunities for improvement and recognizing performance that exceeds expectations.
  8. Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements

Education:  Associates Degree or approved equivalent combination of coursework and related experience or extensive related experience is required.  Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Work experience:  Experience (5-8 years minimum) working in a healthcare (professional) billing, health insurance or equivalent operations work environment.  Minimum 5 years of direct supervisory experience managerial or administrative experience required.

Knowledge:  Healthcare (professional) billing, knowledge of CPT/ICD-10 coding, claim submission requirements and other related industry terminology and practical use.  Thorough understanding of the revenue cycle and how the various components work together. 

Skills: Excellent verbal/written communication skills.  Strong presentation skills.  Ability to work well under pressure.    Results oriented with a proven track record of accomplishing tasks, multi-tasking, deadline oriented and being responsive.    Project Management.  Strong interpersonal and organization skills.  Service-oriented/customer-centric.  Microsoft Office.  Strong computer literacy skills.

Equipment Operated: Mainframe billing software (e.g., Cerner, Epic, IDX) experience highly desirable.  Microsoft skills required (i.e., Excel, Power Point).
