Job Description

Laurel Heights Hospital is seeking an Exempt FT RECREATION THERAPY MANAGER,  to work with the Autism Spectrum Disorder population, ranging from ages, 6-17, in addition to having experience with varied diagnoses and psychological/emotional problems, such as: trauma, abandonment, PTSD, schizophrenia, self-injurious behaviors.  This population displays co-occurring symptoms/behaviors for ASD which includes non-verbal, serious self-injury, and total self-care.   EOE. 

Job Requirements

Bachelor degree in Therapeutic Recreation from accredited program.  Experience working with behaviorally disordered children/adolescents preferred.  CTRS or eligible to obtain certification within 1 year of employment.  Ability to plan goal oriented therapeutic recreation activities and function as member of multi-disciplinary team; ability to lead and provide hands-on facilitation for groups;  skill in assessing motor skills, cognition, and social functioning; ability to develop measurable treatment goals pertaining to need areas;  possesses physical endurance and stamina;  able to obtain lifeguard certification with 1 year of employment if necessary.  College level reading and writing skills; proficiency in oral and written communication; firm knowledge of medical and psychiatric terminology; skills in dealing courteously with public and other staff within organization; firm knowledge of human behavior or principles of psychology; skills in prioritizing and managing time; problem-solving abilities; use of appropriate social skills, including role modeling and respect for staff and children; empathy toward children and  adolescents; firm knowledge of  child growth and development; skills in limit-setting necessary; ability to supervise Clinical Assistants within groups; practice of therapeutic/professional boundaries; willingness to seek/accept supervision.  Employee must have a valid Georgia Driver's License.
