Job Details


The successful candidate will provide microbiological subject-matter expertise within the department, and drive continuous improvement initiatives to support the microbiological testing laboratory. The successful candidate will be part of a specialized dynamic team that interacts with multiple levels and departments throughout the organization to drive change and ensure the high quality and continued supply of life-saving pharmaceuticals to the market.


+ Tests and trains on a variety of microbiological tests including sterility testing, bacterial endotoxins, gram staining and microbiological identification.

+ Performs analyses on finished products, raw materials, and components including entry, review, and/or approval of data in a computerized database.

+ Continuous improvement of current test assays and methods including the development and validation of new test methods

+ Overseeing qualification of new laboratory equipment

+ Evaluation of testing and lab practices against regulatory standards to ensure continued compliance

+ Participating in and leading deviation investigations and corrective action/preventative action creation and execution

+ Creation and revision of standard operating procedures.

+ Write trending reports summarizing personnel and environmental monitoring results highlighting any trends observed.

+ Performing risk assessment analyses of the site EM/PM program

+ May be required to support Environmental Monitoring and associated tasks as necessary

+ Perform Aseptic gowning training


The ideal candidate should have:

+ A Degree in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Immunology or other related specialized biological science. Graduate degree is preferred.

+ Experience (3+ years) in a similar role within the Pharmaceutical and/or Bio-Pharmaceutical Industry (or comparable GLP/GMP Laboratory setting). In-depth knowledge of microbiological testing and aseptic techniques.

+ A passion for continuous improvement, excellent project management skills, and experience driving critical projects to completion within agreed upon timelines. Experience leading continuous improvement projects is preferred. Knowledge of lean manufacturing, six sigma methodologies, and statistics is a plus.

+ An understanding of microbiological release testing on in-coming materials and finished product dosage forms using approved test plans.

+ Experience defending their work in regulatory audits.

+ Good oral, written and interpersonal communication skills are required.

+ A demonstrated ability to organize time independently, be able to perform several tasks concurrently (ability to multi-task), and be able to meet objectives in a flexible, team-oriented environment


+ Ability to analyze data and evaluate microbiological and bioanalytical laboratory methods for continuous improvement is required.

+ Basic computer skills, such as data entry with a high level of attention to detail, are also required.

+ Long periods of standing and/or sitting may be needed. Occasional lifting (less than 35 lbs), and reaching may be required.

+ Extended time working at a computer terminal, as well as periodic weekend work, is also required.


Primarily First Shift: 7:00am - 3:30pm. Weekend and/or Holiday hours may be required in order to meet business and/or customer needs.
