Position Summary:
General Summary of Duties: Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP) will complete behavioral health assessments, treatment plans/plans of care for patients and psychopharmacological evaluations in the Emergency Department as well as on med/surg floors in collaboration with Arbour-Fuller behavioral health team onsite.

Reporting to: Arbour-Fuller Hospital, Director of Nursing Services and Medical Director and works collaboratively with Arbour-Fuller Director of Emergency Services

Specific Duties/Responsibilities:

• Works as with MRMC staff, nursing and social work staff as part of the behavioral health team
• Provides evidence-based behavioral health assessments and treatment/care plans to patients
• Makes independent decisions regarding needs of the patients, collaborating with hospital attending physicians in providing behavioral health services
• Maintains patient records and other written information as required
• Facilitates with ED Clinicians patient discharge planning other behavioral health services as needed such as inpatient, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient, community services, outpatient services and psychopharmacology.
• Collaborates with the medical staff to provide direct patient consultation as appropriate (with physician order). Provides consultation and information to primary care staff regarding pertinent behavioral health issues.
• Collaborate with the Medical staff, attending physicians, and case management in disposition/discharge planning
• Provides psychiatric nursing consultation MRMC physician and nursing staff regarding assessment planning and provision of therapeutic interventions for patients
• Serves as a role model and nursing/social work resources for the professional staff in the clinical management of patients with behavioral health issues.
• Maintains patient confidentiality
• Works to acquire knowledge of medical issues pertinent to the provision of effective behavioral health services
• Maintains department policies and procedures and ensure quality of care with respect and sensitivity to the needs of the clients we serve
• Consult on psychopharmacology and treatment plan, risk factors.
• Discharge planning and community behavioral health referrals to patients/families

Performance Requirements

• Knowledge of and skill in providing behavioral health assessment and treatment specifically in an evidence based manner
• Knowledge of organizational policies, regulations and procedures of services
• Skill in working closely as a team member with hospital staff including physicians, nursing, social workers.
• Skill in providing information about behavioral health issues to staff and patients
• Skill in development treatment plans, plans of care, discharge plans, community referrals
• Knowledge of community resources for mental health and addictions treatment
• Skill in maintaining effective working relationships with patients, staff and families
• Ability to be flexible in providing services
• Skilled in exercising a high degree of initiatives, judgment and distraction and decision making to achieve organizational objectives
• Ability to organize, coordinate and monitor work assignments
• Ability to prioritize work assignments and departmental responsibilities

Education: RNCS, PNP or independently licensed social worker from an accredited institution. Experience developing treatment and discharge plans as well as behavioral health assessments and psychopharmacological evaluations. Possession of a valid MA license in the appropriate discipline including AANC ce1iification and other certifications and licensing requirements as appropriate. Clinician needs to meet all clinical credentialing requirements at both Lessor and Lessee.

Experience: Prior partial, inpatient, or crisis service experience preferred.

Technical Skills: Must be proficient with written and verbal communication skills. Must have knowledge of community-based and state agencies with regard to behavioral health services.

Age and Disability: Must possess knowledge and skills necessary to interact compassionately and appropriately with patients and their families on a regular basis.

Other: Professional demeanor and appearance, as well as the ability to deal tactfully with sensitive situations and maintain patient confidentiality. Must be able to interact effectively with other hospital departments to achieve desired outcome for the patient.

Contacts: Reports to the Partial Program Manager and contacts outside care providers as needed.

Environmental Demands: Physical surroundings are pleasant and comfortable, with minimal exposure to injury or other hazards.

Essential Physical/
Mental Demands: Minimal physical effort required. Handling light materials and supplies.

Manual Dexterity
Required: Ability to write legibly on both internal and external documents.
