Job Description

Job Responsibilities

  • Operate MR and radiographic machines and processors, analyze body habitus to correctly adjust technical factors, position the body correctly, review physicians written orders or obtain pertinent clinical data to consistently produce high-quality radiographs and reduce unnecessary radiation to patients and oneself.Ability to acquire IV access and administer contrast material with power injector preferred.Completed department orientation and/or competency skills rosters as required.

  • Assists the radiologist during (injection, biopsy, drainage) procedures and if necessary (contrast reactions or code blues) by preparing the room, tray, and supplies and by anticipating the needs of the physicians and patients.

  • Performs all appropriate procedures in the computer as needed (i.e. scheduling exams, completing exams by computer terminal, and proper charging of supplies, etc.).

  • Completes all proper forms (i.e. pregnancy and contrast form) and scans forms into PACS system.

  • Documents any work related incident (i.e. patient fall, IV extravasation, work-related injury, etc.) through the designated program in a timely manner

  • Report immediately to Imaging Lead/Supervisor/Director or designee any equipment problems (i.e. x-ray, processors, computer, etc.).

  • Performs necessary Quality Control procedures to ensure quality exams are performed.

  • Performs other related duties as requested by the Imaging Director/Manager/Lead including, but not limited to: stocking rooms, maintaining clean work area, transporting patients, training new employees, etc.

Job Requirements

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS

  • Ability to perform routine and emergent MR exams.
  • Ability to follow physician’s orders.
  • Ability to acquire IV access and administer contrast material preferred.
  • Ability to access patency of IV sites before injections.
  • Ability to look up lab values and pull related exams for radiologist viewing.
  • Performs “Time Out” on all procedures, ensures universal protocols are completed on all patients by utilizing “two identifiers” per TJC NPSG standard. 
  • Verbalizes and demonstrates, in clinical practice, HIPAA compliance and all safety practices as supported by organizational policy and procedure.

MINIMUM ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum two years experience as a registered Radiology Technologist in an acute care facility preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years MR experience preferred.

MINIMUM ESSENTIAL EDUCATION

  • Certification from a certified Magnetic Resonance Imaging School or ARRT MRI

REQUIRED LICENSURE / CERTIFICATIONS

  • Active California Radiology Technologist (CRT) license along with fluoro licensure (preferred).
  • American Registry of Radiology Technologists (ARRT) license (preferred).
  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging ARRT/(MR) preferred. 
  • Current BLS certification required.
  • Venipuncture Certification required

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Must have good hearing, sound dexterity, and visual acuity.
  • Capable of extensive walking, standing, pushing, and lifting.
  • Must have no limitations that would restrict job performance.
