The primary role of the National Director of Nursing (DON) is to assist in the development and ensure full execution of the nursing strategy, identifying best practice for incorporation into, and standardization of, all nursing practices and workflow. The National DON provides leadership to and is accountable for the performance of nursing leaders and/or senior level professional staff.  

You’ll enjoy the flexibility to telecommute* from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. Must be able to work across Central, Mountain and Western time zones.



Primary Responsibilities:


  • Responsible for process standardization that drives efficiency and effectiveness of systems supporting the delivery of patient care and the achievement of quality patient outcomes.
  • Collaborates with Regional Vice Presidents of Operations to meet the regional financial goals through efficient nurse staffing models and nursing process.
  • Ensures adherence with all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations. 
  • Collaborates in the formulation and full execution of organizational nursing strategy.
    • Analyzes, evaluates, plans and reviews existing and planned nursing initiatives and strategies. 
    • Leverages technology including online resources through external and internal systems to research, communicate, manage knowledge, mitigate error, and support decision making (e.g. identify available evidence to support clinical practice, navigate websites) and document information.
    • Develops benchmark criteria to measure the efficiency and effectiveness of nursing programs.
    • Reviews reporting of quality data, identifies best practice, and incorporates into all nursing practices and workflows.
    • Identifies and uses quality indicators and core outcome measures to evaluate the effect of changes in the delivery of care at the regional and organizational level.
    • Develops, maintains and participates in the review of organization-wide policies and procedures to ensure the delivery of quality nursing care.
    • Prepares periodic reports for management as required.
    • Leads and/or participates in various internal committees as requested.
  • Coaches, mentors and raises the nursing organization’s ability to deliver and exceed patient/customer expectations.
    • Involved in hiring of nursing management personnel.
    • Ensures effective onboarding and orientation of new Regional Directors of Nursing.
    • Ensures that Regional Directors of Nursing are prepared to onboard nursing staff.
    • Develops resources and tools that facilitate nursing supervisory and management functions.
  • Maintains and develops professional competency through seminars, workshops and professional affiliations.


Required Qualifications:

  • Active and unencumbered Registered Nurse license in the state of practice and other states as required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or graduate of accredited diploma or associate nursing program plus 7 years of professional nursing experience.
  • Minimum of four years management experience leading registered nurses in an alternate-site or inpatient acute health care setting.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication and organizational skills.
  • Able to work with a cross-functional team of internal and external professionals including dietitians, pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, nurses, sales representatives, branch and regional managers, departmental leaders, case managers, discharge planners, physicians, outside nursing agencies, patients, families and caregivers.
  • Able to travel as required.
  • Professional presence, including comfort level with providing education to individuals and groups.



 Preferred Qualifications:


    • Clinical practice and/or management experience in Home Infusion
    • Experience managing across multiple sites of care or territories
