The mission of Process Automation is to provide highly effective automation, information collection and reporting, and manufacturing workflow solutions for the Pfizer Global Supply (PGS) Kalamazoo facility. Major systems include Honeywell, Foxboro, & Delta V Distributed control systems, an assortment of programmable logic controllers including Rockwell and Siemens, the OSI PI data archive, VMWare ESXi, and Wonderware & GE SCADA systems.

The Automation Infrastructure Engineer position will provide highly effective support to create and maintain the base infrastructure for the digital plant of the future. This will include master planning, implementation and maintenance of the new Automation Fiber Network and the OSI PI Historian which will serve the entire Kalamazoo facility with millions of data points among other core infrastructure needs.

This position will support Infrastructure systems for both Drug Products and Sterile API manufacturing projects, needs, goals and objectives to include all capital expansions as well as daily optimization of manufacturing and business processes. Deliver 24x7 troubleshooting and maintenance support for all systems.

Responsibilities include:

Infrastructure master planning which supports the digital plant of the future

GMP verification protocol generation and execution

development of new and follow existing standard operating procedures and programming guidelines

design, develop, deploy and test our automated processes, systems and equipment.

identify, design and implement new technologies.

lead the specification and procurement of new highly automated manufacturing equipment

provide 24x7x365 support of our automation systems

Be recognized as expert with site's production and control system needs

generate and develop system support documentation

clearly communicate progress and issues to management and peers

Assist in training and mentoring site Automation Technicians, Automation Engineers and other operations personnel

Monitor and trend issues to identify and develop preventative solutions


Bachelor of Science degree in a technical field Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, or Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent work experience.

Ten or more years of Automation Engineering experience.


Knowledge about network design, troubleshooting, and maintenance. Knowledge about OSI PI data historian. The ability to perform or oversee the installation, commissioning, validation and maintenance of network and historians that support the facility.

The ideal candidate should have background in cGMP regulations and the practical application of those regulations to control systems.


Office and plant environment.

Keyboarding, lifting, standing, bending, walking.

Light travel, weekend and off hours work.


Weekend and off hours work required, some overtime.

Supporting 24/7 operation - on call coverage.

Adhere to safe work practices

Some travel (including international) required (Approx. 5% of time)
