Position Description:
The Home Depot in Marietta, GA is seeking a Network Security Manager to support the THD Affiliates. 

This position oversees and manages several teams of associates in the development, implementation and ongoing support of existing and new software applications and hardware platforms which may include telecom responsibility.  Works closely with end-user groups to ensure operational stability and that new applications meet the practical needs of the company.  Responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining an enterprise network firewall environment.  Responsible for network security in private and public cloud environments. This may include but is not limited to Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud environments.  Responsible for ensuring compliance with NIST 800-53 and PCI standards.  Develop and maintain security standards, procedures, and policy surrounding Enterprise Firewall Architecture including Juniper SRX series, PaloAlto, Fortigate, and Cisco ASA.  Develop and maintain design and operational documentation for Web Application Firewalls (WAF), including Akamai Kona, Imperva, and WAF features on load balancers.  Collaborate and work with application and network teams to improve the security posture of web application performance and security as it relates to firewall and WAF policies.  Provide management oversight to the continuous improvement of the security posture of the network as it pertains to firewall configuration and security policy implementation, including the development of new security zones, and analysis and lockdown of existing access-lists.  Evaluate new and emerging threats as well as network automation processes and new technologies.  Participate in or lead technology proof of concept activities and make recommendations to leadership to assist in making procurement decisions on new systems.  May be assigned responsibilities within a diverse set of IT security subject areas such as: Payment Card Industry (PCI) and/or Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance, vulnerability and risk management, disaster recovery preparedness, digital forensics and e-discovery support, PII data protection, identity and access management, security operations or intrusion detection.

The Systems Engineer Manager is responsible for attracting, retaining and developing top talent focused on market needs and inspiring Systems Engineering teams to provide quality service to drive a highly stable infrastructure in support of The Home Depot's business. The Systems Engineer Manager focuses on guiding and executing the implementation, maintenance, and support of hardware, software and systems necessary to enable sales, drive efficiency, and build customer satisfaction. Within their Systems Engineering teams, Systems Engineer Managers, work closely with business stakeholders and the stores. They support system planning reviews and communicate and present across all levels of the organization.


30% - Strategy & Planning:
Looks across teams with a focus on alignment and dependencies
Gains a thorough understanding of infrastructure needs and guides teams to design infrastructure platforms that meet end user requirements
Translates product and project goals into infrastructure strategy and clearly communicates direction and priorities to teams and business partners
Determines value to the business of anticipated Systems Engineering efforts
Identifies goals, metrics, and appropriate analytics to measure the performance of Systems Engineering teams; continually makes recommendations and refinements on approaches based on learnings
Reviews recommended solutions and work of Systems Engineers to ensure alignment with company, stakeholder, and end user priorities
20% - Delivery & Execution:
Leads configuration, debugging, and support for infrastructure
Documents, reviews and ensures that all quality and change control standards are met
Leads field and corporate roll-outs of technology
Leads the stand up of necessary system software, hardware, and equipment (physical or virtual) to meet changing infrastructure needs
Creates and optimizes specifications for complex technology solutions
Provides regular status to leadership regarding progress of Systems Engineering efforts
Manages vendor relationships
Manages, reviews, and approves purchase requests for hardware and software
20% - Support & Enablement:
Removes roadblocks and obstacles that may impair Systems Engineers to help ensure efforts meet strategic, financial, and technical goals
Receives and prioritizes escalations and incoming requests from product teams and stakeholders
Guides the production of in-house documentation around solutions
Monitors tools and proactively helps teams struggling with systems issues
30% - People:
Provides leadership, mentoring, and coaching to Systems Engineering professionals
Attracts, retains, and develops top talent
Conducts annual and mid-year reviews, reviewing individual development plans and providing performance feedback
Fosters collaboration with team members to drive value, and identify and resolve impediments
Advocates for the end user and stakeholder by becoming associated with the product, empathizing with and understanding user needs
Guides more junior team members in strategy, alignment, analysis, and execution tasks
Participates in and contributes to learning activities around systems engineering core practices (communities of practice)


Typically reports to the Systems Engineer Sr. Manager, Technology Director or Sr. Director.


Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
Typically requires overnight travel 5% to 20% of the time.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 7 plus years experience in related field; 3 to 5 of which is in a leader/ team lead capacity.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related filed preferred.
  • At least seven years administering or implementing enterprise network firewalls in environments with over 5,000 users in a multi-site datacenter with experience in public and private cloud infrastructure.
  • At least five years experience with enterprise network infrastructure, including Cisco and Juniper networks. There should be demonstrated experience with converged networking and software defined networking management and oversight.
  • At least seven years experience with routing protocols such as BGP, OSPF, with a solid understanding of how these are utilized in a complex multi-site network.
  • At least five years implementing Next Generation firewalls such as PaloAlto, and demonstrated experience with converting extended access-lists to application-ID based security policies.
  • Strong knowledge of the SDLC process, OSI model, creation and maintenance of network diagrams, communicating and collaboration in enterprise environments.
  • Certifications in Juniper, Cisco, PaloAlto, firewalls necessary for the position. CISSP certifications a plus, and SANS certifications are recommended. Certifications in routing and switching are suggested, as well as in load balancer technology.
  • One or more industry certification - CISSP, CISM, CISA, CCFE, GIAC, CCIE,CCSP, ABCP, MBCP, ISA, PCIP
  • Retail experience; working with technology and software; strong business acumen
  • Network, system or application design, implementation or support
  • System administration with experience across multiple platforms and applications
  • Prior participation or responsibility for audits and assessments
  • Exposure to risk management tools and methods
  • Certificates/Licenses - One or more industry certifications – CISSP, CCNP Security, JNCIS/P/E-SEC, PCNSE, as well as SANS certifications such GSEC and GCIH. Other ISC2 and SANS certifications will be considered. Examples include: CISSP, CISM, CISA, CCFE, GIAC, CCIE, CCSP
