Cox Communications is searching for an Automation Engineer to join a dynamic and forward thinking team focused on ensuring the quality of our customers’ devices. In this role, you will implement, integrate and maintain an automation framework used for certifying the quality of the Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) provided by Cox Communications to its residential subscribers for the delivery of internet, voice, and wi-fi services. This is an exciting role, directly contributing to Cox’s ability to offer enhanced services to our customers like Smart Internet and Home Automation. Without direct supervision, you will formulate and define scope and objectives through research and fact-finding to develop or modify moderately complex scripts and evaluate tools to increase our testing automation capability and expand test coverage. Testing, debugging, documenting and maintaining those scripts and supporting tools, reviewing test results and coordinating lab environment change activity. You will serve as an automation lead in responding to and resolving automation platform issues, interacting effectively with internal customers and appropriate system vendors to conduct necessary research to resolve issues and expand capability. Ensuring documentation standards and procedures for version control are in place and actively seeking and evaluating opportunities for process improvement.

What projects will I have?
You will be expanding on the existing automation framework, putting together and executing on an automation strategy in support of efforts like Cox’s migration to an IMS voice platform, the deployment of premium customer gateways with enhanced wireless and smart internet features, and the end to end integration testing of customer support tools used for managing devices and home networks.

In order to keep up with the rate of change from our device vendors and strategic partners, we must embrace and enhance our testing automation capabilities. Evaluating new tools and integrating them into our automation framework, allowing us to increase our automation coverage and maximize our testing capability.

Primary Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

• Designs, develops, and executes scripts for more complex automation, performance testing, tools, or harness assignments
• Demonstrates skill in data analysis and retrieval, and develops scripts for routine test data entry
• Performs a full range of implementation and support tasks for test tools and harnesses
• Uses established procedures and models, prepares estimations for larger, moderately complex projects
• Analyzes documentation and technical specifications for larger, moderately complex projects
• Possesses and applies a broad knowledge of device engineering and development principles, practices, and procedures
• Ensures proper version control and configuration management of all objects developed
• Identifies and documents issues uncovered during test execution.
• Through training remains up to date on all tools. Uses tools employed by test for all appropriate activities.
• Works in compliance with established security standards and procedures
• Utilizes documentation standards, templates, and change control exclusively.
• Fully document and report on project status and test reports/test closure memos
• Solves most typical technical challenges, with some guidance on complex problems or issues
• Tests core network hardware, software, and configuration required for sustaining, optimizing, or enabling IP services


• 5-8 years’ of experience in related field (i.e. Engineering, Technical Operations)
• Working knowledge of transmission, switching, powering, grounding, mechanical, and cabling.
• Demonstrated problem solving and analytical thinking skills.
• Excellent collaborative skills to work effectively with teams throughout the organization.
• 1 year experience developing and maintaining detailed network designs and documentation
• 1 year experience troubleshooting and diagnostics

• BS/BA degree in related discipline strongly preferred (i.e. Engineering, Computer Science, or similar technical degree).
• Object oriented programming, such as Java or Python
• Telecommunications Industry certifications
• Experience with tools such as Spirent Test Center, Avalanche, Abacus, Empirix
and Wireless testing tools such as Octoscope or Ixia Veriwave
• Experience with home networking technologies and associated testing concepts, mainly network and physical layer technologies such as DOCSIS, Ethernet, MoCA, WiFi, IP routing, and voice.
• Experience with Telecommunications management protocols such as SNMP and TR-69.
• Experience with a test case management platform such as HP-ALM (Quality Center), JIRA
