Job Details

We are seeking a motivated and dynamic individual to join the Pfizer NGS Technology Center. This individual would lead the development, validation, implementation, and growth of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) technologies at Pfizer Kendall Square (KSQ) research campus. This person will provide experimental design support, train scientists across the KSQ research units/partner lines and help execute technical and laboratory aspects of in-house NGS assay development. This individual will also be involved in establishing LIMS processes, defining robust QC criteria and interface with bioinformatics/ computational groups to establish primary NGS data management and analysis pipelines. Meticulous attention to detail, proficient reasoning and problem-solving skills in experimental design required.







**ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES**







+ Drives the implementation and growth of NGS technology application, supports ongoing development, validation and troubleshooting of NGS assays, in particular RNAseq (total or mRNASeq), 3' RNAseq, targeted RNASeq, small RNAseq, and other emerging NGS based applications.



+ Overseas operations of different NGS workflows; from sample preparation, library construction, data generation, and data QC, ensuring high level of quality and reliability of generated results.



+ Effectively optimizing and troubleshooting NGS library preparation using state of the art robotic automation platforms.



+ Maintaining stringent QC processes from sample collection/ isolation all the way to NGS library and sequencing run QC.



+ Interfaces with teams to implement data processing and analysis workflows, bioinformatics pipelines, and data storage procedures



+ Effectively balances resources as needed to achieve timely execution of projects across multiple research units and partner lines.



+ Serves as a subject matter expert for NGS technology, provides guidance on experimental design, method or platform selection, and data management to address a specific need.



+ Educates other scientists and provides hands-on training



+ Stays on top of the scientific and technical innovations in the NGS space in particular, and follows new trends and developments in genomic technologies overall.







**QUALIFICATIONS**



**Education And Experience**







+ PhD and previous experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job.



+ OR Master's degree and previous experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job (comparable 2+ year).



+ OR Bachelor's degree or equivalent and relevant formal academic / vocational qualification



+ Previous experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job (comparable to 4+ years) or equivalent combination of education, training, & experience.







**Knowledge, Skills And Abilities**







+ Must have at least 2 years of documented hands-on (wet lab) experience with NGS assay development, validation, troubleshooting, and reviewing of sequencing run QC data.



+ Must have strong general molecular biology laboratory skills and in depth experience with DNA/RNA extraction, nucleic acid quantitation and quality control analysis.



+ Must have an in-depth knowledge of different NGS applications and technologies.



+ Knowledge of robotic automation of NGS workflows is highly desired.



+ Familiarity with different NGS software platforms, bioinformatics pipelines and NGS data processing and interpretation solutions highly desired.



+ Must have strong organizational and interpersonal skills, must display excellent leadership and people skills, and demonstrate ability to work collaboratively with others in a highly matrixed environment.



+ Must be self-motivated, display scientific curiosity, demonstrated ability to work independently and learn quickly.



+ Must be goal oriented and focused on completing work on time.



+ Thrive in a highly interactive, fast-paced and dynamic team environment and able to quickly adapt to changing priorities.



+ Must be fluent in English both oral and written and possess good communication and presentation skills.



+ Full understanding of laboratory requirements and SOPs.



+ Ability to independently optimize analytical methods.



+ Proven problem solving and troubleshooting abilities.



+ Effective written and oral communication skills



+ Ability to independently review and understand project proposals/plans.
