Job Description

Position Summary:

Texas NeuroRehab Center (TNC) provides complex medical and brain injury rehab, chemical dependency treatment for adults and neuropsychiatric treatment for youth. The capabilities of the facility as a whole allow for integrated and specialized care for children, adolescents and adults facing difficult challenges.

Texas NeuroRehab Center is currently accepting applications for a Nurse Manager/Case Manager in the Post-Acute Brain Injury program.  The candidate selected will be expected to fulfill a variety of responsibilities including, but not limited to, the following:

  • Plans, directs, controls, coordinates, and evaluates the nursing program activities to provide and promote adequate nursing staffing, quality care, patient rights, and compliance with facility standards.
  • Participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of facility policies.
  • Functions as interdisciplinary treatment team member.
  • Assists the treatment team in coordination of patient programs and discharge planning for each patient.
  • Maintains an awareness of funding sources needs and status, and initiates appropriate action.
  • Assists with utilization review, risk management issues and the PI outcomes and data collection.
  • Completes Master Treatment Plans (MTP) and Master Treatment Plan Reviews (MTPRs) promptly and thoroughly.
  • Develops and implements nursing goals within the program.
  • Determines needs for personnel, supplies, equipment, and physical plant.
  • Ensures the utilization and incorporation of the Nursing Process into the Master Treatment Plan as it relates to the Nursing Care Plan. In collaboration with the Infection Control Nurse, enforces infection control measures and solutions.
  • Assures that medication and medical treatment is administered as prescribed by a physician and that nursing care and treatment progression is documented completely and accordingly to policy. May provide and document patient and family education.
  • Completes performance evaluations for program nursing personnel.
  • Maintains professional demeanor in dress, attitude, support of unit milieu, and hospital mission and philosophy.


Job Requirements

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: Thorough knowledge of rehabilitation and brain injury. Knowledge of appropriate nursing assessment, diagnoses, and interventions with patients. Knowledge of milieu management. Ability to accurately administer medication and monitor side-effects. Knowledge of milieu management. Ability to safely implement Special Treatment Procedures. Ability to develop therapeutic relationships with patients and families. Skill in preparing and maintaining appropriate medical record documentation. Able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing. Understanding of management principles and budgeting procedures. Able to evaluate other staff using the criteria in their job description.  Able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.

Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. BSN preferred.

Licensure/Certification: Current State of Texas Registered Nurse License, Current CPR certification. CRRN or RN, C preferred.

Experience: Two years of inpatient rehabilitation or brain injury experience required. One year of progressive experience in management and/or supervision. Experience in evaluating staff against the criteria in their job description preferred.

Physical/General Requirements: Able to lift and carry 50 pounds with frequent lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Able to physically restrain patients by individual or team restraint per policy. Able to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time. Able to use a computer and/or write for extended periods of time. Hearing, vision, and emotional stability sufficient to perform essential job functions. Able to communicate in writing and verbally and to speak clearly such that others can understand. Able to use the phone for extended periods of time. Regular and expected attendance.
