POSITION SUMMARY: The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is member is a member of the Pediatric care team and has as his/her primary responsibility the management of pediatric patients in Edinburg Children’s Hospital.The NP is in direct collaboration with his/her supervising physician or designated back-up physician.He/she has specialized skills and knowledge related to the unique Pediatric Care setting in which he/she practices and performs physical exams, collects and documents data, conducts approved diagnosis and therapeutic procedures, orders and schedules laboratory studies and professional consultations, prescribes appropriate medications and interventions, and provide patient care services in a Pediatric setting and the nursing profession.

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. The job requires at least 12 months of clinical experience and expertise as a Nurse Practitioner within the past five years.

  2. This person should also role model professional nursing through conduct, communication, leadership, ethical decision making and problem solving skills.The NP will maintain current certifications/training as outlined under education/licensure..

  3. Must demonstrate commitment and adherence to STHS’s Compliance Program and Code of Conduct through compliance with all policies and procedures, the Code of Conduct, attendance at required training and immediately reporting suspected compliance issue(s) to the Compliance Officer.

 

 

EDUCATION / LICENSURE:

The Nurse Practitioner should have the following:

  1. Must have and maintain current BLS. Must have and maintain current ACLS certification. Certifications must be in accordance with the curriculum of the AHA, for   Healthcare Provider’s Program.

  2. Must have ATLS certification by July 18, 2018 or within 12 months of hire and maintain current status thereafter.

  3. A current license from the Texas Board of Nursing to practice as a Nurse Practitioner with prescriptive authority

  4. Evidence of adequate liability insurance

  5. No physical and/or mental problem preventing him or her from exercising the granted privileges

  6. An agreement with a physician(s) currently appointed to the medical staff of the hospital to supervise the NP’s practice in the hospital

BCLS/CPR

Must be current upon hire and thereafter

 

X

ACLS

If required in unit, nurse with a year or less of experience - obtain within 12 months of hire, unless in Labor and Delivery or Post-Partum where RN must obtain within six months of hire;

nurse with over a year of experience - obtain within 6 months of hire;

or if hired with a current certification must keep current at all times

 

PALS

  or

ENPC

If required in unit, nurse with a year or less of experience - obtain within 12 months of hire;

nurse with over a year of experience - obtain within 6 months of hire;

or if hired with a current certification must keep current at all times

 

 

NRP

If required in unit, nurse with a year or less of experience - obtain within 12 months of hire, unless in Labor and Deliver or Post-Partum where RN must obtain within six months of hire,

nurse with over a year of experience - obtain within 6 months of hire;

or if hired with a current certification must keep current at all times

 

TNCC or  or T-CAR

If required in unit, must have and maintain certification within eighteen months after hire;

or if hired with a current certification must keep current at all times

 

STABLE

If required in unit, must obtain within 12 months of hire,

or if hired with a current certification must keep current at all times

 

CPI

If required in unit, nurse with a year or less of experience - obtain within 12 months of hire; nurse with over a year of experience - obtain within 6 months of hire;

or if hired with a current certification must keep current at all times

 

SAMA

If required in unit, - obtain within 30 days of hire

 

FETAL MONITOR

If required in unit, nurse with a year or less of L&D experience - obtain within 12 months of hire; nurse with over a year of L&D experience - obtain within 6 months of hire; or if hired with a current certification must keep current at all times.

X

ATLS

If required in unit, must obtain within 12 months of hire,

or if hired with a current certification must keep current at all times
