Position Summary:

1.   Assumes responsibility for the management of units as demonstrated by staffing/census

      reports submitted in a timely manner to ensure optimal patient outcomes are achieved.

2.   Serves as a leader for nursing department and other professionals, units/departments within the hospital.

3.   Identifies operational problems and takes immediate action to correct the specific problem encountered in a timely manner.

4.   Maintains appropriate staffing coverage for clinical units, ensuring standardized data is used in staffing decisions.

5.   Supervises and evaluates nursing unit personnel for a specific shift in accordance with established evaluation criteria and personnel polices.

6.   Evaluates nursing staff in accordance with established standards of care and personnel policies.

7.   Mediates problems involving patient/families, hospital personnel and public in a timely manner.

8.   Participates in implementation and monitoring of the hospital and department policies, procedures, goals and cost containment measures.

9.   Administers medications and medical treatment error-free in accordance with departmental procedures and physician orders.  Nursing interventions and nursing education groups are conducted in accordance with the program and schedule.

10. Completes nursing documentation relevant to Treatment Plan.  Provides timely and thorough documentation of patient behavior, medication administration, treatment planning, and treatment interventions.  Documentation reflects professional standards.

11. Conducts shift report, makes staff assignments, and assures that both milieu schedule and behavioral interventions are implemented in accordance with physician orders, treatment recommendations, unit program, and the treatment plan.  Participates in interdisciplinary treatment team, provides input to Treatment Plans, staff meetings.

12. Conducts admissions, transfers, and discharges. Assures that nursing documentation is completed for admissions, transfers, and discharges in a timely manner according to policy & procedure.

13. Provides direct supervision of seclusion and restraint in accordance with age-specific interventions, policies, procedures and regulatory requirements.  Assures patient rights are protected, and acts to prevent, identify and report abuse.

14. Adheres to facility philosophy, Code of Ethics, Standards of Conduct, Performance Improvement and corresponding Policies & Procedures.  Works to maintain safety and emergency preparedness, and reports incidents, treatment errors, or unsafe conditions.  Maintains general employee expectations, and performs other duties as assigned.

15. Completes Treatment Plan Audit and submit results to DON or Nurse Manager as requested.

16. Data Comparison is accurate, comprehensive and completed in a timely manner.

 
Requirements
This position requires a Registered Nurse licensed to work in the State of Indiana with three years of management experience.  A thorough knowledge of Joint Commission, CMS, OSHA, State and Federal regulatory standards preferred.  Experience in a pyschiatric treatment setting with children, adolescents and adults a plus.
