Kingwood Pines Hospital a 116 bed facility located in the beautiful residential Kingwood community. We are located about 30 miles northeast of the Houston Medical Center. The hospital provides 24-hour emergency services. We serve children, adolescents, adults for psychiatric and behavioral health. The hospital also has services in intensive outpatient and partial hospital program services. Kingwood Pines Hospital currently has a Weekend Nurse Supervisor position available. The candidate selected will be responsible for the following:

Purpose: To provide leadership to unit staff in order to insure safe and high quality patient care for psychiatric patients; to insure appropriate number of qualified staff to provide patient care; to act as a member of the hospital-wide nurse management team; to assist in establishing Policies and Procedures which impact patient care. To participate in meeting the educational needs of Nursing Services staff.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. To provide leadership and direction, on his/her assigned shift, to other registered nurses, licensed vocational nurses and mental health technicians.
2. To insure appropriate staffing for number and acuity of patients on assigned shift, utilizing float pool and agency staff, as needed.
3. To participate in the nurse management team by assisting in the development of the hospital’s philosophy of nursing and Policies and Procedures.
4. To recognize signs and symptoms of chemical dependency disorders and apply/utilize appropriate treatment interventions.
5. To recognize signs and symptoms of mental health disorders and apply/utilize appropriate treatment interventions.
6. To assist CNO and Director of Human Resources in determining educational needs of unit staff, to assist in the design and implementation of training of unit staff and to evaluate training effectiveness.
7. To serve as a role model in the delivery of patient care.
8. To insure the timely evaluation of assigned float pool staff and to give input into the evaluation of staff members on assigned shift.
9. To verify appropriate licensure, certification, orientation and evaluation of agency staff working on assigned shift.
10. Service Excellence is a primary goal! Provide the best customer service experience.
11. To admit and discharge patients after hours in accordance with hospital Policies and Procedures.
12. To obtain medication from pharmacy after hours in accordance with established procedures.
13. To insure proper handling and documentation of all emergencies, incidents, special procedures and patient
complaints during assigned shift.
14. To communicate with administrator-on-call about admissions and incidents.
15. Serves as nursing on-call administrator on a rotating basis.


Customers Served:
Patients, families, allied health professionals, physicians, other registered nurses, licensed vocational nurses, mental health technicians, counselors, unit secretaries, administrative personnel, other members of the management team, staff from all hospital departments.

 
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of appropriate nursing assessment, diagnosis, treatment, planning, intervention and evaluation of psychiatric patients. Ability to accurately administer medication and treatments and monitor for effectiveness and side effects. Knowledge of milieu management. Ability to delegate responsibility to other staff and monitor their performance. Ability to safely implement special treatment procedures. Skill in developing therapeutic relationship with adults, adolescents, children and their families. Skill in preparing and maintaining appropriate medical record documentation. Skill in teaching patients and families about the patient’s health needs. Knowledge of JCAHO Standards, Medicare and TDH regulations. Ability to formulate Policies and Procedures.


EDUCATION:
Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing. BSN preferred, ANA Certification preferred.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:
• Current Texas Driver’s License
• Current Texas State Registered Nurse License
• Current CPR
• Current CPI

EXPERIENCE:
Five years inpatient psychiatric experience. One year medical/surgical experience preferred. Previous management experience preferred.

Other Hazards: Participates in therapeutic crisis intervention which involves some personal risk when dealing with physically aggressive patients.

Physical Requirements: 
Full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients. Manual and finger dexterity. Hand-eye coordination. Ability to run. Ability to restrain patients weighing up to 250 pounds. Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds. Ability to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Ability to drive a vehicle. Ability to walk 6+ hours per day, frequently standing, bending, stooping and reaching to check or move equipment and assist patients. Hearing and vision sufficient to perform essential functions. Emotional stability necessary to perform essential functions. Ability to speak clearly. Ability to write legibly.

This position may, from time to time, require that patients outside the normal age group(s) as stated above be cared for. In this event, the employee should consult with his/her direct supervisor to be directed to available resources to provide the appropriate care.
