Job Description
  1. Clinical observation and reporting— Observes patient behavior, focusing on biophysical, developmental, cognitive, emotional, spiritual and sociocultural needs.

  2. Problem Identification— Identifies distinct patient problems and communicates observations to the primary RN, Charge Nurse, and Unit Director as applicable.

  3. Psychosocial Needs— Identified inappropriate behavior of patient and communicates observations to Charge Nurse.

  4. Performs the secretarial/clerical aspects of patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse; ensures optimum patient flow by utilizing Bed Management Dashboard (BMD) and Interactive Voice Recognition System (IVR) in accordance with policy.

  5. Prioritizing and processing physician orders accurately and within designated time frame; seeking assistance as needed.

  6. Completing staffing and census reports as required.

  7. Organizing and prioritizing all clerical work assignments inter- and intra-departmentally; providing follow-through as necessary.

  8. Contributing to continuity of patient care by coordinating patient care activities, e.g., tests, treatments, consultations.

  9. Maintaining patient medical records and reports utilizing established policies and procedures and forms, e.g., advance directives, conditions of admission, patient deaths, chart thinning; keeping medical record contents together when patient is transferred among units; ensuring medical record is sent to Health Information Management immediately upon discharge. Maintaining competency in the use of computer and software programs necessary to the position.

  10. Typing, copying, faxing, and filing.

  11. Prioritizing and processing physician orders accurately and within designated time frame; seeking assistance as needed.

  12. Answering of patient calls, receives, greets, and directs patients/visitors, records and delivers messages for patients/staff

  13. Communication liaison during emergency situations

Other duties as assigned by Unit Director and/or Charge RN

Job Requirements
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills in the English language.

  • Basic nursing care terminology and functions.

  • Telephone skills.

  • Ability to accurately collect and record patient data as directed.

  • Six (6) months CNA experience preferred at acute care facility

  • Completion of an accredited Certified Nursing Assistant program

  • Current, valid Certified Nursing Assistant certificate.

  • BLS Certification (AHA and current)

  • CPI or NCI certified within 120 days of hire

  • Ability to work in high volume, fluctuating census environment.

  • Subject to many interruptions.

  • Subject to irregular hours.

  • Ability to work in fast paced environment where noise levels fluctuate.

  • Subject to a variety of odors.
