Job Description
Looking for a full-time, benefits eligible, experienced nursing supervisor, preferably with psychaitric experience. Duties include: 1. Assesses the overall operation of the shift and makes efficient utilization of nursing resources in order to facilitate and improve patient care. 2. Promotes, develops and supports standards which contribute to the health and safety of patients, staff and visitors. 3. Consistently supervises and enables the charge nurse to problem solve at the unit level as evidenced by charge nurse not requiring constant involvement of supervisor 4. Consistently "trouble shoots", identifies potential problems and supervises the charge nurse and/or nursing staff to take corrective action before problems occur. 5. Maintains appropriate level of staff as indicated by unit census and clinical needs. Always contacts Director of Nursing and/or the Administrator on Call for any staffing variances. 6. Assesses the overall delivery of patient care with the charge nurse; provides feedback concerning quality of care to nursing staff members 7. Provides guidance and support to staff in clinical emergencies 8. Serves as a resource person to the charge nurse; knows and monitors compliance of standards with the charge nurse; collaborates with the charge nurse to solve immediate staffing problems 9. Re-allocates staff when necessary for optimal care 10. Functions as a triage nurse, completing the nursing triage note when there is no triage nurse according to policies and procedure 11. Collaborates, with the on-call admissions officer and DOC when the admissions office is closed, in screening patients for admission according to policy and procedure. 12. Consistently provides mandatory safety inservices for shift staff and ensures a 90% compliance rate for staff attendance. 13. Audits all restraint forms to assume 100% documentation compliance prior to end of shift. 14. Actively participates in infection control surveillance; monitors compliance with hospital and unit fire, safety and infection control standards 15. Initiates disaster and fire plan in the absence of hospital administrator on off-shifts 16. Communicates recommendations regarding supplies and equipment problems; reviews and signs QA's and incident reports occurring on off-shifts and makes recommendations for improvement 17. Establishes and enforces policies and procedures in conformity with hospital, state and federal requirements 18. Assesses the safety risk factors within the unit milieu 19. Provides guidance and support to nursing staff and/or direct intervention as needed. Audits restraint forms to assume 100% compliance with documentation. 20. Works with supervisors and the admission nurse to ensure patients are evaluated in a timely manner according to hospital policy. 21. Rounds on units to ensure assignments, safety checks, and patient schedules are being followed.
