What You’ll Do
This is an engineering position in the Central Packaging Engineering team. The team is responsible for specifying and managing all aspects of the global supply chain related to protective packaging. The position is located in Oslo, Norway supporting the Collaboration Business Unit product line. Focus of the position is on leveraging internal and external partnerships to achieve and amazing customer experience and business results. The position requires an understanding of product design and dynamics, business management skills, packaging testing and an ability to create innovative packaging solutions.

 

The candidate will work to deliver results measured in terms of cost, quality, delivery, and environmental impact by means of the following activities:

  • Be an integral part of the product design team and work to understand the vision for the product.  Be a part of the team to ensure the best product design practices are in place to ensure the best packaging design.
  • Influence and direct the design of protective packaging from concept to sample to production to ensure the optimal balance of the customer “out-of-box” experience, material cost, manufacturing process efficiency, transportation cost, protection in transit, and environmental impact
  • Cooperation with a multitude of functional and product teams, internal and external to Cisco, on various projects related to packaging, transportation, logistics, manufacturing, procurement
  • Review packaging designs for sustaining products to identify areas for improvement in cost, environmental impact, or protection
  • Work with Cisco partners to develop packaging solutions pushing the “status quo” for new and innovative ideas.
  • Engagement with NPI teams early in the design process to drive design for optimization for all key aspects including distribution.
  • Collection and analysis of data related to packaging, products, quality, transportation, returns due to damage and drive improvement in these areas
  • Communication of status and accomplishments to non-technical audience
  • Work with manufacturing partners to identify and implement packaging improvements
  • Coordinate/create technical packaging drawings as well as engineering change orders and document designs using Agile PLM
  • Work with test labs, prepare test samples, complete and archive test reports
  • Share responsibility for transportation damage reduction
  • Working knowledge of bare product mechanical fragility analysis, ASTM D3332, Method A
  • Review of OEM/ODM packaging designs
  • Work with external packaging engineers on inbound materials packaging
 

Who You’ll Work With

You will be part of the Cisco Centralized Packaging Team focusing on Collaborations Products in Oslo Norway.

You will partner with the Industrial Designers and Product Engineers adding valuable feedback on design changes that will positively affect the packaging design, logistics and the customers “out of box” experience.

 

As part of the Project Team, you will also ensure the Packaging Quality and Packaging GSM (Global Supply Base Manager) Teams are up to speed on all aspects of the packaging development and are involved as required.

 

You will also be the main interface to the packaging suppliers ensuring optimized design, material choices and packaged product testing.

 

Who You Are

Looking for an individual with a commitment to excellence and interest in making a difference. Bachelor degree in Packaging Engineering or other engineering discipline is required. Minimum 5 years of working experience in a packaging engineering role or packaging design for high tech industry. Excellent communication and organizational skills. Flexibility and ability to excel in a multicultural global work environment. Teamwork and commitment to making the whole team successful is a must. Full working knowledge of English language, both technical and business.
