Patient Account Representative – Full Time

BHC Alhambra Hospital is seeking a dynamic and talented Patient Account Representative  

The mission of BHC Alhambra Hospital is to develop, implement and manage, in the most ethical and efficient manner, a network of superior behavioral health services with optimal client outcome.

The Patient Account Representative is responsible for submittal of electronic and manual billings, account statements, and for follow-up with third-party payers and patients for outstanding balances.  This position is also responsible for the preparation of daily cash receipts and maintenance of insurance logs.

Key Responsibilities include:

  1. Prepare all accounts for billing and ensure account billing productivity standards are met:

  2. Prepare and submit insurance billings to primary and secondary payers.

  3. Transmit all billings to third party payers, either manually or electronically as requested.

  4. Provide assistance in contacting third-party payers at 15-day intervals after billing to assure that bills have been received and are being processed.

  5. Provide assistance in contacting third-party payers on insurance billings a minimum of twice every 30 days for payment status.

  6. Correspondence is answered within 72 hours of receipt.

  7. Maintain a current tickler and/or aging system for prompt follow-up billing cycles.

  8. Document contacts on a productivity log.

  9. Ensure account activity is current and accurately documented:

  10. Change financial class of accounts if there is secondary insurance to be billed.

  11. Complete a denial notification notice when payments are denied, and ensure documentation on the folder is completed.

  12. Maintain an up to date denial log.

  13. Prepare billing reports as required by the department.

  14. Review for accuracy all records and uniform billings (UBS) for third party payers.

  15. Provide follow-up on progress of appeals, and prepare documentation as required.

Job Requirements

Position Requirements:

Education:  High school graduate or equivalent.

Experience:  A minimum of two (2) years experience in insurance billing and CPT coding.  Any combination of education, training, or experience in a hospital business office.  Experience with billing, computers, and business software programs (Excel) preferred.

Additional Requirements:  May be required to work occasional overtime and flexible hours.
