Texas NeuroRehab Center (TNC) provides complex medical and brain injury rehab, chemical dependency treatment for adults and neuropsychiatric treatment for youth. The capabilities of the facility as a whole allow for integrated and specialized care for children, adolescents and adults facing difficult challenges.

Texas NeuroRehab Center is currently accepting applications for a Patient Care Technician (PCT). A Patient Care Technician assists in the direct care and management of patients across all age ranges with medical and behavioral issues as directed by the treatment team. Rehab Techs provide assistance with unit programming to facilitate the carryover of therapy issues, leisure activities, and activities of daily living within the functional ability of patients and with consideration for the patient’s level of growth and development.

The candidate selected will be responsible for the following:

Assures a safe, nurturing, clean, & supportive environment.
Accompanies & actively supervises patients in activities of daily living (ADLs), appointments, & recreational activities that occur both on & off the living unit.
Actively assists therapists & teachers with patients to provide therapeutic & / or educational activities.
Serves as a role model for patients, visitors, & staff. Works as a team member to promote a positive work environment.
Documents patient behaviors, condition, & progress on a daily basis by recording data in the prescribed format. Progress notes in the medical record accurately reflect behavioral data as well as activities. Charting is thorough & descriptive.
Provides hands-on physical care, supervision, crisis intervention, behavior management, & behavior modification as directed by the individual treatment plan & unit program guidelines.
Recognizes & reports pain & safety issues. Takes measures to provide relief / safety.
Takes and documents vital signs, weights, and heights.
Orients patients to the unit & facility with emphasis on procedures & standard practices.
Maintains professional demeanor in dress, attitude, support of unit milieu, & hospital mission & philosophy.
Exhibits regular & required attendance.
Accepts other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

SKILLS KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: Must have a good understanding of the basic concepts of safe, supportive, nurturing, & therapeutic human interactions. Good verbal and written skills. Ability to rotate to other programs as necessary. Ability to maintain confidentiality of patient information. Ability to learn the basic understanding of program & philosophy & is able to interpret & implement patient care. Demonstrates leadership by training new employees. Effectively interacts with patients, peers, & families. Ability to follow behavior program. Competent to supervise therapeutic & recreational activities. Understands & practices effective motivational techniques. Ability to problem-solve & communicate clearly, both verbally & in writing. Ability to maintain required attendance.

EDUCATION: Prefer bachelor’s degree or college courses in health care, mental health, recreational therapy, education, or human growth & development

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION: Current Driver’s License or State issued Id. Current CPR certification.

EXPERIENCE: No minimum. Prefer one year’s experience as a nurse’s aide, mental health aide, psych aide, or the equivalent in a rehabilitation facility or similar setting

PHYSICAL/GENERAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to sustain physical activity throughout scheduled shift, eight hours or more daily. Remain on feet, standing, walking, and/or kneeling while working with patients. Requires full range of body motion including physically restraining patients per policy by individual or team restraint. Ability to perform CPR. Emotional stability necessary to perform essential job functions. Hearing and vision sufficient to perform essential job functions. Lift, carry, & lower 50 pounds without assistance. Push patients in wheelchairs up & down hills & pursue running patients. Transfer patients to & from beds, toilets, automobiles, & wheelchairs. Ability to verbally communicate to deescalate a crisis situation. Accurately convey patient behavior & status, both verbally & in writing. Visually observe patient behavior & act to protect self & others from aggressive patients or accidents. Write legibly & grammatically to convey patient behavior & information in the chart. Assist in patient care from prompting up to total care in patient hygiene (i.e., bathing, diapering, dressing, etc.) Eat with & feed patients following diet orders & speech therapy program. Attend work regularly, on time, & as scheduled, according to facility policies. Flexible and mature to deal with changing priorities.
