About The Ridge:

The Ridge Behavioral Health System is seeking a dynamic and talented part-time Phlebotomist. Located in Lexington, KY, the heart of the Bluegrass, The Ridge Behavioral Health System offers a healing environment that is reassuring to a patients’ sense of security and confidentiality. Dedicated to excellence, The Ridge Behavioral Health System is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, as a licensed, 110-bed hospital, providing psychiatric (mental health) and chemical dependency (drug & alcohol rehabilitation) services to children, adolescents and adults. Inpatient care is provided on a 24-hour basis, seven days a week. Outpatient and partial hospitalization services are provided on a six-day per week basis, days and evenings. Care is provided according to an established code of ethical conduct and strict adherence to patient rights. The Ridge Behavioral Health System is owned and operated by Universal Health Services. Job Qualifications:


  • High School Diploma or GED and graduate of Phlebotomy Certification Program or graduate of accredited Nursing School.


  • Experience may be accepted in lieu of education.


  • No licensure is required for this position.

  • Must have clear communication / interaction skills and demonstrate competency in venipuncture.

Position Summary:

Perform specimen collection as ordered.

Position Specific Competencies

Provides Quality Patient Care

Effectively establishes rapport with patients and families by adhering to the therapeutic boundaries policy.

Assessed Weight  20%

Provides clear and correct information to callers, visitors, and coworkers.


Models assertive and respectful behavior.


High risk behavior precautions are followed as per facility policy.

Technical Skills

Patients are not venipunctured in excess of two times without asking for assistance from another Lab Assistant or Tech.

Assessed Weight  80%

Specimens are properly labeled at time of collection. Labeling to reflect proper patient ID and accession of specimen, date and time drawn, and phlebotomy tech initials. Redraws completed within 20 minutes.


Specimen collection trays are kept clean daily. Used materials are disposed of in proper containers. Safety devices are used as intended with all needle sheaths engaged.


Remains over shift if necessary to complete duties. Resolves all outstanding accessions on lab draw pending list. Leaves no unverified accessions. When requested to work alternate shift, does so willingly.
