Job Description

Job Duties

  • Ensures appropriate physician order is present. 
  • Reviews patient's records and test results. 
  • Confers with physical therapist, physician, nursing and other members of the health care team, as needed.
  • Accurately implements the patient care program designed by the physical therapist or components thereof in a setting appropriate to the patient’s disability, age and psychosocial needs. 
  • Performs such activities as passive, active and resistive exercise, general conditioning, mobility and gait training and modalities. 
  • Exhibits respect for the needs of the patient and family. 
  • Exhibits good judgment in evaluating treatment techniques and demonstrates accuracy in interpreting results within scope of licensure. 
  • Obtains medical history. 
  • Utilizes a comprehensive approach to patient implementation of the therapy program; assesses physical, social and environmental needs of the patient, within scope of practice. 
  • Monitors for movement toward meeting long-term and short-term goals. 
  • Discusses goals with patient/family and other health care team members. 
  • Develops innovative home programs individualized to meet the needs of the patient/family and instructs the patient and family in these programs. 
  • Applies therapeutic principles; uses appropriate knowledge and clinical judgment in observing patient’s reaction to appropriate treatments.
  • Maintains active and supportive communication with patient/family and members of the health care team, as appropriate, regarding the outcome of evaluation activities, treatment programs, clinical concerns, home care programs and other issues related to the progress and discharge of  patient through the therapeutic process. 
Job Requirements

Minimum Experience

  • One (1) year experience as a physical therapy assistant in an acute care facility preferred.

Minimum Education

  • Completion of A.A. degree from a school or college approved by the American Physical Therapy Association.

Required Licensure / Certifications

  • Current California license as a Physical Therapy Assistant.
  • BLS (AHA) current certification.

Work Environment

  • Busy environment with shifting and evolving priorities. 
  • Subject to varying and unpredictable situations.
  • Occasional pressure due to multiple calls, inquires and interruptions.
  • Occasionally subject to irregular hours.
