Lincoln Prairie Behavioral Health Center is a Joint Commission approved and state licensed facility for 88 beds, which includes pediatric units, adolescent girls, adolescent boys, and MISA (Mental Illness Substance Abuse) unit. We are committed to providing youth with compassionate treatment that encourages self-responsibility and personal growth. Lincoln Prairie provides treatment to children and adolescents (ages 3-17) that present with a broad range of psychiatric and behavioral disorders. Lincoln Prairie offers an array of outpatient programs. We provide educational programs, enhanced Occupational Therapy services, Recreational Therapy, Art and Music Therapy, while utilizing a holistic treatment approach.

We are seeking a Plant Operations Technician to support Lincoln Prairie’s mission. The Plant Operations Technician performs a variety of tasks, including painting, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, test and inspections of physical plant equipment, preventive maintenance and various janitorial duties with minimal supervision.

The primary responsibilities of this position include:

  • Perform all tasks such as painting, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, preventive maintenance and inspections of the physical plant
  • Dispose of infectious/contaminated waste from the facility.
  • Maintain facility grounds in a neat and attractive appearance.
  • Operate and maintain emergency power plant.
  • Maintain all light fixtures in good working condition and change light bulbs, as needed.
  • Perform preventive maintenance electrical test, as well as removal, installation and repair of all mechanical/electrical equipment with direct supervision of a supervisor.
  • Perform various janitorial duties, if needed.
  • Responsible for keeping tools and materials in good condition and in their proper location.
  • Responsible for taking necessary safety precautions when handing hand/power tools and equipment.
  • Take appropriate precautions ensuring proper tag out and lock out procedures when working on equipment.
  • Comply with established measures for infection control, OSHA regulations, and Safety/Risk Management Plans, policies and procedures.
  • Assist in assuring a safe and risk preventive environment.
  • Perform various safety and environmental checklists as directed by supervisor/Safety Officer.
Job Requirements
  • Education:  High school graduate or GED required.
  • Experience:  Five (5) years of experience in building maintenance or construction preferred.  Must have experience in operating a variety of hand/power tools and equipment ensuring proper safety precautions.  Must have experience in building maintenance and basic mechanical engineering.
  • Licensure/Certification: Must have a valid driver’s license. Successful completion of CPR certification within 90 days of employment.
  • Knowledge/Skills:  Skill in all general building maintenance, specifically in repairing dry wall damage. Knowledge of basic mechanical engineering. Skills handling various hand/power tools and equipment. Knowledge of risk and safety precautions applicable to all codes and OSHA regulations standards. Ability to adapt to the various patient age groups (children and adolescent). Effective oral and written communication skills.  Skill in organizing and prioritizing workloads to meet deadlines. Must be a self-starter and goal/results-oriented. Ability to use good judgment and to maintain confidentiality of information. Strong customer service skills to external and internal customers. Ability to adhere to safety policies and code procedures react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Ability to accept direction and adhere to policies and procedures. Ability to work in a fast paced environment. Ability to recommend/take corrective courses of action that would improve the functioning of the department’s systems. Must have complete knowledge of physical plant within six weeks of hire.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.  Push, pull and lift up to 75 pounds.  Intermittent sitting, standing, walking, bending and stooping.  Ability to move continuously is required in the completion of job requirements. Ability to operate machinery and equipment in a safe manner. Ability to work under any weather condition inside or out without regard for temperature, anytime of the day or night. Ability to hear sound with or without correction. Good hand and finger dexterity for the use of tools and equipment.  Ability to drive a motor vehicle. Ability to exert up to 80 pounds of force to move objects. Drug and alcohol free as evidenced by negative results of post-offer, pre-employment  urine drug screen.   • Environmental Conditions: Exposure to psychiatric patients who may exhibit violent/aggressive behavior. Potential for exposure to communicable diseases, blood/body fluids and other hazardous waste. General hospital environment.
