Job Details

We are seeking an enthusiastic independent scientist with a demonstrated track record in studying neural circuitry and signaling pathways related to whole body energy balance, who is interested in pursuing an academic style Postdoctoral Fellowship in an industry setting. The scientific focus is to dissect chemotherapy-related anorexia/weight loss neurocircuits in cancer models and identify novel downstream targets important for maintaining or restoring energy balance using rodent in vivo techniques and human tissue/cell models. Publication in high-impact journals and presentation of research is prioritized, however project work may also bring about opportunities to complement drug discovery interests.







The candidate will have daily interactions with a team of creative and innovative scientists in a supportive environment for rigorous scientific training. Mentorship is focused on nurturing skills to enable development as an independent scientific investigator. Strong self-motivation, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team are essential.







**Role Responsibilities**







+ Independently conceptualize and design experiments



+ Organize and conduct in vivo/ex vivo studies independently (including preparation, data collection, analysis, interpretation, and presentation)



+ Keep abreast with scientific and technical developments in field



+ Author manuscripts for quality publications in top-tier journals.



+ Attend and present at international meetings and collaborate across groups in the research unit.







**Basic Qualifications**







+ Recent PhD related to biological sciences (i.e. physiology, endocrinology, metabolism, oncology)



+ A successful track record of scientific achievements through scientific publications and presentations.



+ Hands-on experience with in vivo rodent experimentation (stereotaxic surgery, catheterization, microinjection, transgenic mouse models), ex vivo skills (hypothalamic explants, microtome/ vibratome sectioning, immunohistochemistry)



+ General molecular biology skills (PCR, ELISA, Western blot).







**Preferred Qualifications**







+ High impact first-author publications in a related field







**PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS**



Physical activity related to vivarium rodent work (e.g. lifting rodent cages, standing for long periods of time during experiments, experimentation at mouse thermoneutral room temperatures, PPE requirements for working with immunocompromised animals)







**NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS**







+ Flexible working hours (evenings and/or weekends as needed for experiments).



+ Occasional travel to conferences (USA or outside).



+ Vivarium rodent work



+ Handling human tissues
