As a Principal Application Developer, you would be joining us during a time of transformation and growth that touch a range of solutions that span the web, mobile and IoT / hardware devices as well. In this role, YOU will be part of the WorkForce Now (WFN)/ Time & Labor Management division that provides holistic human capital management time solutions for mid-sized companies. YOU will have the opportunity to help create the best experience for ADP's Time & Labor Management solution that is part of WorkForce Now's core HCM (Human Capital Management) offering.

  • Responsible for building services and coming up with appropriate solutions to business problems
  • Research, Design, Develop, and/or modify enterprise-wide systems/applications
  • Prototyping solutions and recommending the adoption of new technologies and continually improve our client experience.
  • Support Development and Deployment of application software releases to production and Non Production environments
  • Self-reliant, hands-on position on the team to lead and drive code quality, maintain application stability in an agile environment.
  • Collaborate with architectural peers, product owners, UX/UI, Internal/External stakeholders and globally distributed teams to understand requirements and develop application in compliance to client needs
  • Assist in the development of overall project plans and timetables, analysis and identification of intermediate deliverables
  • Define engineering best practices and mentor teams to write elegant code using effective automated unit tests & Test Driven Development methodologies
  • Develop specifications for new products/services, applications and service offerings
  • Meet deadlines and manage multiple, dynamic priorities


  • 10+ years of overall technical experience with hands-on experience in application development / system / platform / integration and testing software/solutions, 7+ years of experience includes application development using Java technologies
  • Strong Development Experience with Restful and SOAP-based web services, JSON and XML and knowledge on the Microservices oriented architecture
    • Extensive Java and Integration frameworks Spring, Hibernate development experience, preferably gained on complex, multi-tier, web-based business applications on WebSphere or Tomcat
    • Working knowledge of common Internet technologies (e.g. HTML5, JavaScript, AJAX, AngularJS), Mobile software development and Amazon AWS
    • Demonstrate significant experience working with relational databases, SQL and newer NoSQL data stores
    • Experience in designing & building responsive applications overlaying web and mobile devices is a plus
    • Experience in asynchronous I/O technologies (Node.js), NoSQL databases, OOP, Functional paradigms, public cloud services (AWS, Azure)
      • Experience with behavior-driven testing frameworks like Cucumber and integration-testing frameworks like Selenium and SoapUI
      • Experience in SCRUM, Jira, GitHub, Jenkins

  • BA/BS in Computer Science or equivalent in education and experience required

  • Thorough understanding of Object Oriented principles (Analysis and Design)
  • Experience with Web Services (REST, SOAP, XML-RPC, etc) and multi-threaded applications
  • Experience with relational databases and data access (JDBC/DAO/SQL); Oracle strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with Java and an in-depth understanding of other Java technologies, including JDBC, JMS, and messaging (e.g. MQ Series, Oracle AQ, JMS, etc.)
  • Experience in developing and driving SOA strategies within large enterprises and deploying SOA
