The primary role of this position is to design, plan, and execute the development, implementation, qualification and transfer of bioanalytical methods in support of bioprocess and formulation development for early phase vaccine programs. The individual should possess expertise in molecular biology and cell culture with an emphasis on nucleic acid structure, function, and characterization. In addition, this position will involve day to day management of up to 4 people.


+ The individual should apply their significant expertise in molecular biology based techniques, along with their understanding of critical features of the vaccine candidate, such as nucleic acid quality and integrity, to develop suitable qualitative and quantitative characterization methods and approaches.

+ Provide expertise in a number of molecular biology based techniques such as but not limited to qPCR, RT-PCR, nucleic acid extraction and cloning, gel electrophoresis, macromolecule blotting and probing, CGE and nucleic acid analysis by HPLC.

+ Participate in the development and qualification of assays. Independently analyze data and provide conclusions. Critically evaluate own and others results and offer insights based on process and product understanding to help solve problems.

+ Responsible for authoring relevant method SOPs and technical reports. Contribute to patents, regulatory documents or manuscript as required.

+ Read scientific and technical literature in order to bring new and improved procedures to the laboratory, and to broaden understanding of disciplines outside area of training. Utilizes all appropriate experimental design methods needed for work in area of specialization. Conduct literature searches and apply knowledge to the approaches taken.

+ Manage daily oversight of direct reports, ensuring local compliance is maintained on all activities and provide guidance and scientific insight to direct reports experiments and assay development work. The incumbent will spend approximately 50% of their time managing direct reports and 50% of their time providing bench level hands on support.

+ Participate in scientific discussion with colleagues through informal and formal scientific seminars and meetings.


+ PhD in Molecular Biology or related discipline with a minimum of 4 years of postdoctoral experience or preferably in the Biopharmaceuticals/Vaccine industry.

+ Experience in managing scientists is required

+ Experience in molecular biology techniques including but not limited to: qPCR, RT-PCR, nucleic acid extraction and cloning, gel electrophoresis, macromolecule blotting and probing, CGE and nucleic acid analysis by HPLC

+ Strong verbal and written communication skills are required


Colleague will need to work on site which involves: lifting, sitting, standing and walking. The candidate will design and execute lab experiments/studies, perform complex data analysis and author technical development reports. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required. Interaction and direct management of direct reports will occur.


Standard work week of 40 hours per week. The candidate will be expected to work in a BSL-2 environment and with live viruses.
