*Role Description*

This position is a blended role between VST (Veterinary Science and Technology) and GST (Global Science and Technology) teams of Comparative Medicine.The role entails supporting VST at a percentage of time that ensures delivering high quality clinical veterinary medicine. The role also entails supporting GST at a percentage of time that will support advancing the Worldwide Research and Development (WRD) portfolio through developing and executing animal models of disease for Pfizer Kendall Square Research Units.


1.Collaborate with Pfizer Research Unit scientists and Investigative Partners to develop and execute animal models of disease and robust in-vivo study conduct, notably in the metabolic and cardiovascular field. Independently direct and perform in vivo/ex-vivo studies, interpret and present results to project teams, and prepare study reports for regulatory documents. 2.Provide high quality veterinary care to research animals in support of Pfizer's portfolio. Provide veterinary direction to Comparative Medicine (CM) and research staff working with animals. Enable continued compliance with applicable local, state, or Federal regulations, codes, and guidelines.3.Serve on a rotational basis to provide veterinary care on weekends and holidays.4.Strive towards flawless animal care and welfare in conducting research studies through study design and implementation, and championing the "3 Rs" principles.5.Educate colleagues in techniques and principles which promote 3Rs, in particular anesthesia and analgesia as well as new techniques reported in the literature and communicated at external meetings.6.Review or consult on research animal proposals submitted for IACUC review. Interact with in vivo scientists to understand their research needs, engaging them in a flexible and constructive manner to address matters of ethical review with a focus on 3Rs, humane endpoints and adverse effects.7.Maintain the relevant sections of the animal care program, SOPs, and training documents to assure the highest quality of site operations and regulatory compliance. 8.Produce posters, presentations, and publish manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals.9.Provide and direct clear communications regarding animal care and wellbeing and study conduct to the CM and research staff.10.Assist in the conduct of internal audits and other inspections and on occasion assist with the evaluation of third party facility inspections and audits by acting as a CM expert.11.Actively participate on or lead CM local or global teams.


Educational Background:DVM; licensed to practice in the US or equivalent required. PhD. or MS degree in metabolic or cardiovascular disease preferred.Board certified (preferred) or eligible (required) by ACLAM or other relevant certification in the US (or equivalent board certification) Work Experience: *1-2 year of clinical experience in private practice or laboratory animal medicine.*2-3 years of research experience in metabolic or cardiovascular animal model development. Has authored manuscripts and reports, and made internal and external presentations. Proficiency in multiple laboratory and in vivo techniques, and reputation for technical expertise and advancing technology within and outside the organization. Experience with optical imaging (IVIS, FMT) and or high frequency ultrasound imaging desirable.All colleagues should have functional knowledge of Microsoft Office, Outlook, calendar management and Internet Explorer. Colleagues should be able to use on line systems such as time tracking and document management. (e.g. SharePoint, Activity Tracker) Knowledge and use of other systems based upon job function may be required: Experience with analysis software/validated data capture systems. (e.g. Biobook)NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS Serve on a rotational basis to provide veterinary care coverage outside business hours, on weekends and holidays.
