Medication lower cost alternatives represent significant opportunities to improve medication adherence, reduce consumer out of pocket costs and lower drug spend for clients.  The capability to define and manage lower cost alternatives is central to engaging consumers and their providers on treatment options and is a core component of many OptumRx product offerings.

 

The Product Capability Manager is responsible for the long term strategy and investment roadmap for the medication lower cost alternatives capability, in support of the OptumRx product portfolio.  Scope of work includes partnering closely with clinical, product, industry relations, operations, and technology to define and deliver a capabilities roadmap to standardize, enhance and optimize the lower cost alternatives enterprise tools and processes.  This is a highly matrixed role that will be office - based in Eden Prairie, MN and will be a part of the OptumRx product capabilities and solution team responsible for advancing key foundational capabilities that drive value into our product portfolio.

 

Skills the role must leverage are strategic thinking, quantitative analysis, strong knowledge of competitive landscape, and a clear understanding of key business objectives.  This role is expected to partner effectively with product and consumer engagement teams to assess the existing and future capability needs and ensure those needs will be met by the capability roadmap. The Product Capability Manager will lead cross  -  functional teams to develop and launch new or enhanced product capabilities. More specifically, this role will develop relationships with key stakeholders of the lower cost alternatives workflow and consumer experience to explore, develop and test / pilot ideas to advance the capability.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Establish a strategic capability roadmap for lower cost alternatives, including new concepts, enhancements, migrations and extensions of existing solutions
  • Ensure that the capability portfolio of solutions meets or exceeds product revenue and performance goals
  • Establish product capabilities reporting, inclusive of financial, performance, outcomes, operational and client facing dashboards
  • Constantly collects and analyzes performance data to ensure lower cost alternatives are meeting the objectives of the business
  • Lead product capabilities updates at monthly / quarterly performance reviews, including the innovation pipeline, financials, and capability performance
  • Synthesize competitive analysis and market assessments to inform the product capability strategy, prioritize investments, and that capitalize on market trends, customer needs and competitive positioning
  • Clearly understands the competitive landscape - competitor strategies, positioning, strengths and weaknesses
  • Assess client information, including claims and pre - sales analyses, to generate insights and recommendations
  • Understand the financials of the business and the products to ensure the economics of each client solution are feasible and profitable
  • Participate as the subject matter expert in meetings with external clients
  • Assist leadership in projecting future opportunities and outcomes

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Four - year degree in business, healthcare or technology (or equivalent) 
  • 4+ years of experience managing a diverse product portfolio and a deep understanding of product strategy, portfolio management and product development 
  • Experience in product development process, project management, and complex projects and activities
  • Proven success in developing complex product strategies and plans 
  • Strong demonstrated ability to lead business initiatives to a successful result
  • Team building and culture building experience
  • Business process experience 
  • Experience in complex, matrix organizations; knows how to get things done both through formal channels and the informal network
  • Demonstrated leadership ability with cross - functional teams and consensus builder
  • Ability to effectively deal with levels of ambiguity - can effectively cope with change, can shift gears comfortably, can decide and act without having the total picture, comfortably handles risk and uncertainty
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Effective formal presentation and facilitation skills in a variety of settings  
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment in a positive and supportive manner
  • Strong analytical abilities, organization and project / process management skills  
  • Good negotiation, problem solving, planning and decision - making skills.  Accurately scopes out projects, sets objectives and goals, develops schedules and resource assignments, measures performance against goals, and evaluates results
  • Strong initiative and self - motivation
  • Ability to manage projects simultaneously and achieve goals.  Uses resources effectively and efficiently
  • Excellent follow through, attention to detail, and time management skills  
  • Strong interpersonal skills; the ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of individuals at all levels of the organization 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Operational or technical experience
  • MBA
