The Patient Access Operations Manager is actively involved in the development of all Patient Access/Registration operations and applications. Oversees all UHS Acute Care Patient Access Services (PAS) operations and provides direction for maintaining efficient processes that impact the revenue cycle and customer service. Monitors acute care PAS processes, procedures, and key performance indicators. Performs ongoing operational analysis to identify and resolve issues affecting acute care hospital operations. Implements performance improvement techniques, processes and procedures, best practices, and software applications to improve PAS workflows and quality.

Essential Job Duties

  • Monitors and analyzes the Patient Access operations and workflows, reviews Key Performance Indicators and reports to identify problems and then resolves issues impacting operational results.
  • Manages new PAS projects, product/system implementations, enhancements, and conversions.
  • Evaluates and develops new initiatives and Best Practices to provide added value to Patient Access operations.
  • Provides support to acute care facilities and other internal/external customers. Develops, implements and monitors compliance with UHS policies and procedures.
  • Interacts with various Corporate and facility departments that are impacted by the workflows of Patient Access including: Patient Accounting, HIM, Case Management, IT, Finance and hospital patient care areas.
  • Manages and prioritizes workload via help desk tickets, projects database, requests and analysis.
  • Provides training and education as needed.
Job Requirements

Associates degree with 5-8 years experience required; Bachelor's degree with 8+ years experience preferred. 

  • Must have Patient Access supervisory/management experience in an acute care setting. 
  • Extensive exposure to PAS processes and operations including, but not limited to, central scheduling, pre-registration, financial counseling, insurance verification and authorization, inpatient admission, outpatient, ancillary and emergency registration, and upfront cash collection, is required.  Project management experience is essential, as is the ability to manage/assist with system projects, product implementations/enhancements, and software conversions. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required for developing education materials and providing/overseeing user training for all software applications, policies and procedures. 
  • Proficient utilization of the Internet, Windows, Microsoft Office Suite, and Cerner Invision system is required.  Knowledge of other Cerner PAS related applications (i.e. Document Imaging, FirstNet, Scheduling, etc) is preferred. 
  • Knowledge of CMS and other governmental requirements applicable to Patient Access/Registration processes is required. 
  • Ability to identify, develop and implement process improvements and best practices is essential. 
  • Problem solving and analytical skills to work independently and manage projects are required. 
  • Significant experience may be substituted in lieu of education.
  • Travel Requirement is approximately 40% minimum.
