The Project Manager- Surgery Sterilization/Disinfection provides subject matter expertise with responsibility for ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements related to sterilization and high level disinfection at UHS acute care facilities; hospitals, surgery centers, and clinics.  Provides clinical advice, guidance, and resources to assist facilities in attainment of high reliability relating to reprocessing, cleaning/decontamination, sterilization, high level disinfection and storage of equipment and instrumentation.  Works collaboratively with local leadership to implement needed improvements.  Provides ongoing education via WebEx or individually on site.  Assists with development of standardized orientation and ongoing education.  Mentors and coaches local SPD and clinic leadership for clinical effectiveness.   Participates in continual performance and process improvement monitoring key performance metrics such as:  case cart error frequency, instrument set error frequency, days without bio-burden post sterilization, sterilization documentation error frequency, Immediate Use Steam Sterilization (IUSS).     

Supports the corporate Director of Surgery with continuous performance and process improvement related to sterilization and high level disinfection in all UHS acute care and ambulatory care areas.

Facilitates high reliability, quality and compliance with regulatory requirements with any hospital or clinic department involved in the management of sterilization, instrumentation, or high level disinfection. Stays abreast of changing regulations/guidelines.  Implements corrective/mitigation plans to ensure compliance.

Manages and performs data analysis.  Interprets data with action plans to accomplish strategic objectives

Provides expertise, and education for all areas related to sterilization, instrumentation, and high level disinfection.

Participates in Lean and Six Sigma projects relating sterilization and high level disinfection and other projects as identified.

Works collaboratively with facility surgery leadership, infection prevention, nursing, and division Performance and Process Improvement staff to ensure regulatory compliance and high reliability.

Supports facilities with instrument tracking software implementation and optimization.

Designs and develops dashboards and other innovative data visualization solutions.

Promotes standardization of processes, procedures, orientation, competencies, and products used with sterilization and high level disinfection in a fiscally prudent manner.

 

 

Job Requirements

BSN, Master’s degree desired.  Certification as Certified Registered Central Sterile Technician (CRCST) required.  Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER) and Certified Instrument Technician (CIT) desired.  Knowledge of Performance Improvement and Lean highly desired.

5 or more years of clinical experience in leadership with Sterile Processing Departments required, 8+ years experience preferred.  Membership in professional organization (IAHCSMM).  Interpersonal skills to foster an interdisciplinary, collaborative environment.  Experience working in a complex organization.  Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability.  Demonstrates organizational skills, sound judgment and decision making, along with independent work initiative.

Frequent US travel to assess facilities, provide education and remediation.  May function as interim SPD leader on occasion.  Travel expectation 50 to 75%.

Equipment, Application and tools knowledge:  Demonstrated proficiency with common computer based applications such as Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
