*Role Description*

An exciting opportunity is available to lead a group of analytical scientists in the BioMedicines Design (BMD) La Jolla non-regulated quantitative bioanalytical (nrQBA) laboratory. The leader is accountable for developing and implementing a comprehensive strategy for nrQBA and Bioanalysis (Biomarker, Biomeasures, and PK Bioanalysis) aligned with Pfizer's Oncology Research Unit, Vaccines Research Unit, and Center for Therapeutic Innovation (CTI California). This individual will partner with senior leaders in BMD, Research Units, Precision Medicine, and Clinical Pharmacology to successfully deliver the small molecule and biotherapeutic portfolio from Idea to Clinical POC. The group is focused on influencing the design of both therapeutic proteins and small molecules by characterizing the PK, PD, and target-specific parameters. The leader is expected to influence discovery and translational projects in immuno-oncology and cell-cycle biology by integrating high quality analytical tools that provide greater understanding of target and mechanism. The scientific leader will be responsible for strategic direction, project representation, supervision and mentoring of 10-12 analytical scientists specializing in quantitative protein analysis, metabolic biomarkers, and cellular biomeasures. This leader will also be responsible for contributing to the strategic direction of the future organization through collaboration with key colleagues in the Research Units and other partner line leaders to ensure optimal project support and strategic direction.#LI-SA1


*Operational responsibilities managing Bioanalytical expertise in partnership with core BMD partner groups for efficient utilization of BMD resources to provide integrated BMD impact on the Pfizer portfolio. This role is accountable for scientific quality, delivery of portfolio goals, and optimal group engagement (e.g., performance management, talent development, and diversity).*The individual will work directly with local and global Discipline Scientific Leaders (Translational modeling and simulation, nrQBA, Regulated BA, and Immunogenicity) to develop and implement organizational efficiencies and globally aligned Best Practices across BMD from Idea to POC for the sake of maximizing the impact of nrQBA resources and impact on the Pfizer portfolio, including the following areas:- Defining key areas of value & impact across the Research Continuum in support of the portfolio- Fit-for-purpose Biomarker and Biomeasure Assay development, translation, and execution, balancing assay rigor against resource needs and study goals- Develop and execute quantitative and translatable PK/ADA assays to support Discovery programs and transition to Clinic- Recruiting & Retention efforts- Strategic Sourcing in partnership with Procurement, the Clinical Assay Group, and Research Units- Strategic alliances with key academic centers of discipline expertise*The candidate through partnership with laboratory leads will influence all phases of laboratory operations including shaping technology decisions, making continuous improvements to drive efficiency, analyzing and interpreting data, and interacting with project teams.*Proactively gathers input from key stakeholders and management to optimize value*The role is accountable for strategic direction of the La Jolla nrQBA discipline to enable Pfizer and BMD to sustain discipline innovation and impact, in direct application to the portfolio (e.g., Biomarkers, Biomeasures, and PK)*Responsible for establishing key partner line interfaces, influencing therapeutic strategy (e.g., Oncology, Vaccines, CTI California, Precision Medicine, and Clinical Research), and will have accountability for overall nrQBA contributions to these Research Units


*Ph.D. (>15 years) or M.S. (>20 years), in relevant scientific field ideally with industrial experience; Experience in development, characterization, and implementation of quantitative bioanalytical assays (e.g., protein mass spec, immunoassay, and flow cytometry) using wet sample preparation methods and instrumentation.*Demonstrated ability to lead PDM sciences to advance novel therapeutic concepts gained through extensive experience in Pharmaceutical R&D*Education/Training in management and leadership skills*Supervisory experience, preferably within PDM or related expertise groups, in leading cross-functional drug discovery and/or development teams with budgetary responsibility and accountability for delivery of goals.*Proven ability to develop strategy and drive implementation in the business.*In-depth knowledge of portfolio management from therapeutic idea to late stage development *A record of managerial and leadership excellence: proven success in talent identification and development, effective change management, effective team building, innovation management, strategic agility and business acumen.*Outstanding oral/written communication skills*Demonstrated ability to clearly & concisely communicate bioanalytical information.PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS*Expertise in oncology, biochemistry, cellular biology, and immunology*Experience and knowledge in operation of time of flight mass spectrometer, triple quadrupole mass spectrometers, a full suite of immunoassay platforms, and flow cytometry *Knowledge and application of sample preparation methodologies as applied to ligand capture, cell-based assays, and metabolite quantification*Knowledge and application of immuno-analytical techniques*Experience with tissue preparation/tissue bioanalysis*Experience with mass spec processing techniques such as immune-capture, protein digestionNON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS #LI-SA110 trips/year to San Francisco and 3 to East Coast
