Position Description

Southwest Medical Associates (SMA), an OptumCare company, is Nevada’s largest multi-specialty practice, with over 350 physicians and advanced practice clinicians.  Our facilities include 22 medical offices, with 13 urgent cares and retail clinics, two lifestyle centers catering to seniors and two outpatient surgery centers.  The practice is fully integrated and includes home health, complex disease management, pharmacy services, medical management and palliative care.  SMA is actively engaged in population health management, with an emphasis on outcomes, and offers patients compassionate, innovative and high-quality care throughout Nevada.  SMA is headquartered in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Our On-Demand Care Department is the largest, most-comprehensive in Nevada for outpatient episodic care, with a quarter million visits annually.  The department incudes six urgent cares and seven retail clinics, offering a full-spectrum of services, with on-site laboratory, radiology (which includes CT and ultrasound), observation unit and infusion center.  Our practice is nearly paperless, with electronic health records, digital radiology, electronic prescriptions and e-visits.  The practice encompasses the full scope of urgent care and is evidence-based and protocol driven.  Our department also includes a robust telemedicine practice, with nearly 15,000 virtual consultations since 2014.
As part of Southwest Medical OnDemand Medicine, the Provider Lead-Telemedicine and Convenient Care, a Physician (MD or DO) oversees the providers assigned to Telemedicine and Convenient Care locations throughout the On Demand department.   The Provider Lead will also have shared oversight of daily operations. The Provider Lead collaborates with department leadership to assess and improve clinical quality and customer service and evaluates program performance on an ongoing basis. The Provider Lead will have supervisory and administrative responsibilities, in addition to direct patient care

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Supervise providers with respect to administrative functions including productivity, patient satisfaction, professional behavior, compliance with medical records and other administrative duties, etc.
  • Conduct required physician oversight by attending % of virtual visits as an observer during the visit.   Perform required monthly onsite review required under Nevada Law observing the mid-levels within the Convenient Care setting
  • Responsible for on-boarding and on-going teaching and support for providers at assigned site
  • Liaison between On-Demand Medicine division and Southwest Medical leadership and site providers
  • Adjust schedules as needed, and review timecards
  • Responsible for scheduling providers for entire schedule
    • Filling open shifts
  • Be first contact person for patient feedback
  • Be involved in policies and procedures issues
  • Oversees patient care services
  • Using experience and expertise, engages, assesses, diagnoses and treats patients presenting for care
  • Using sound medical judgment triages and directs patients to alternative levels of care for presenting problem and/or follow-up
  • Uses resources of the site to engage providers and patients in addressing wellness and gaps in preventive care, in accordance with evidence-based practice and standards of care
  • Utilize technology to thoroughly document visits and treatments in a timely and comprehensive manner in accordance with OptumCare, medical group, and regulatory requirements
  • Demonstrates and reinforces value of On Demand Medicine services during each visit
  • Maintains service level standards for response, visit time, and patient satisfaction
  • Maintains currency with evidence-based practice standards
  • Providers clinical triage support to medical group patient services team as needed, and provides staffing support to Southwest Medical,  On-Demand Medicine team as needed
  • Supports and embraces Quadruple Aim of high quality care, accessible care, controlled costs, and high patient and provider and staff satisfaction
  • Supports and embraces C-I-Care program
Required Qualifications:
  • M.D. or D.O.
  • Must have completed an accredited residency/fellowship training in specialty
  • Must be board certified or Board Eligible in specialty
  • Active medical license in Nevada or ability to obtain prior to employment
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Minimum three (3) years in clinical practice; urgent care or retail clinic preferred
  • Must have previous leadership experience or have exhibited appropriate leadership potential
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and computer skills
  • Ability to read, write, and clearly speak English, bilingual skills a plus
  • Demonstrated experience/ability and proficiency in utilizing technology to provide and document patient care
