Job Description

Center for Change in Orem, Utah is seeking a full- and part-time Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to join our specialized team in the treatment of Eating Disorders. Center for Change is not the typical acute psychiatric hospital setting, but is a specialty setting focused on the treatment of Eating Disorders.  Patient populations include adolescents and adults 90% of whom are female and are receiving care in Inpatient, Residential, and PHP & IOP treatment settings.  Rounding in our setting is split between medical and psychiatric practitioners.  The caseload averages 12 -15 patients per day varying based upon admit evaluations, UM calls, and discharge evaluations that are needed.

Openings Available:

  • Full-time PMHNP who is interested in working 32 to 40 hours/week.  We are open to explore the hours and schedule.

  • Part-time PMHNPs who are interested in working 10 to 25 hours/week.  We are open to explore the hours and schedule.

Responsibilities include:
•         Provide psychiatric medical care under the oversight and in collaboration with the psychiatric physicians at Center for Change
•         Complete a Psychiatric Admitting Evaluation on newly admitted patients
•         May occasionally be asked to complete a History & Physical Examination on newly admitted patients
•         Ensure that appropriate orders and recommendations are made for treatment and psychiatric/medical care following the initial psychiatric/medical evaluation
•         Conduct reviews of patients’ psychiatric/medical status as needed
•         Communicate with families on significant psychiatric/medical issues
•         As directed, ensure that psychiatric rounding occurs on patients throughout their stay at the Center
•         Respond to or give appropriate orders for emergency needs or care of patients in crisis situations as needed
•         Document the patient's medical record each time he/she sees and/or treats a patient and keep progress notes regarding treatment as well as written doctor's orders.
•         Participate as needed in utilization reviews with insurance companies for the benefit of patients and their families
•         Make appropriate discharge recommendations and prescriptions for psychiatric medication needs for each patient at the time of discharge
•         Countersign all telephone orders in the patient record

Our specialty is the treatment of anorexia, bulimia, binge eating and related and concurrent mental, emotional, and addictive illness.  The most common co-occurring psychiatric illnesses treated are depression, anxiety, drug & alcohol abuse, trauma, and misuse of insulin in type I Diabetes.  Our medical and clinical staff are unparalleled in the depth and breadth of their expertise in treating the physical and emotional complexities of the eating disorder illness. Center for Change is designed to be a warm, home-like setting where patients can focus on recovery.  The Center uses a multi-disciplinary and collaborative approach with specialized and intensive treatment for eating disorders under the care of a supportive and experienced staff. The Center’s treatment includes intensive medical care, psychiatric treatment, individual, family, and group psychotherapy and dietary management and counseling. We seek to treat all aspects of an individual’s life within the context of an active and united team. The Center offers comprehensive programs and all levels of care – from acute inpatient, residential care, day & evening programs (PHP and IOP) programs to traditional outpatient services and aftercare.

Job Requirements
  • PhD or Master’s Degree in Nursing from recognized school of nursing
  • Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner/APRN in the State of Utah or willingness to obtain licensure in the State of Utah
  • Board Certified through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Psychiatric and Mental Health
  • Current National DEA Certificate
  • Current malpractice insurance
