Summary: The PR Intern will support the communications team in their development and execution of public affairs and media relations activities. The PR Intern will understand online research, computer and Internet work, assisting with special events (both internal and external) and press events, assisting with speech, publication and Intranet writing, interviewing employees in order to create content for newsletter stories, assistance with media requests and pitching news stories, archiving news stories, archiving photos, developing social media content and updating media contact lists. Use of broadcasting/video editing is an advantage. Must have excellent writing and organizational skills.

Positions run a minimum of one university semester (Fall, Spring and/or Summer) and could be continuous (multiple semesters) based on the student's performance and the position’s availability. The Spring/Fall terms commitment would be approximately 24+/- hours per week (M-F, with some weekend event work opportunities) …..but all hours are dependent upon the work/projects, and student availability.This is a paid internship role.



Minimum Requirements:

§  Currently enrolled in a Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Broadcasting or Advertising Program.

§  Must be a Junior or a Senior.

§  Strong writing skills (samples must be provided).

§  Minimum GPA 3.0

§  Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.

Preferred / Beneficial Requirements:

§  Membership in IABC and/or PRSA or PRSSA.

§  Experience writing for the school newspaper or other journalistic publication.

§  Experience with organizational social media.

§  Experience with PhotoShop.

§  Experience with video editing software/applications

§  Typical Training / Experience:  HS diploma, GED or relevant work experience; 0-2 years of experience in area of focus

§  Dept/Org Scope & Impact:  Entry level support role requiring basic skills; can perform some of the basic tasks within the function; some impact at the job or department level

§  Problem Complexity:  Performs simple, routine work; Selects correct processes from clearly prescribed rules, past practices, or instruction; Seeks advice and guidance on non-routine or problem areas from supervisor. Any deviations from the norm are cleared by the supervisor/manager

§  Autonomy:  Under close supervision, exercises limited latitude/independent judgment; work typically involves detailed checks or close review of output by a senior co-worker and/or supervisor/manager

§  Knowledge:  Assignments require minimal knowledge beyond the assigned work; demonstrates correct understanding of routine aspects of work; demonstrates strong work ethics in alignment with Cox’s core values and culture.
