Description

Cox Automotive is hiring a Public Relations Manager.  The Cox Automotive Media Solutions Public Relations Manager will guide and execute public relations plans and activities that support Autotrader, Dealer.com and Kelley Blue Book. The ideal candidate has solid B2C and B2B media relations experience, knowledge of the automotive industry and strong relationships with top-tier media, as well as OEM public relations personnel. This individual must show a passion for finding, pitching and placing stories that support the brands’ strategies and objectives. In addition, they must be able to effectively analyze data and convert this information into powerful and insightful information for media consumption. 


Specific Responsiblities

  • Develop and implement public relations plans and programs that build the brands’ visibility and exposure among top-tier consumer and industry media.
  • Build and roll-out formal Media Solutions influencer product to serve individual brands, while also exploring other partnership opportunities to grow network.
  • Create opportunities to promote thought leadership and elevate value proposition of Autotrader, Dealer.com and Kelley Blue Book at non-automotive specific events (i.e. lifestyle, technology, sports, entertainment).
  • Collaborate with internal research and analytic departments to leverage data and statistics and convert into powerful insights and information for frequent use by the media.
  • Build relationships with key internal stakeholders/departments – product, marketing, sales – to mine for story ideas and build integrated campaigns.
  • Create innovative approaches to generating coverage in the media that supports Autotrader, Dealer.com and Kelley Blue Book objectives.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to secure media coverage leveraging trends in the news and media.
  • Develop and pitch story ideas in support of Autotrader and Kelley Blue Book’s consumer and industry outreach efforts.
  • Draft press releases, talking points, newsletters, etc.
  • Track press coverage, and create and maintain clips and media lists.
  • Generate new media outlet contacts. 
  • Prepare internal public relations reporting, as needed.


Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in public relations required.  A focus on media relations and experience building and executing public relations initiatives preferred. 
  • Effective written, including the rules of composition and grammar, AP Style, and verbal and presentation skills.
  • Self-starter, organized, effective with time management and detail-oriented.
  • Demonstrated strength in writing plans, press releases and developing and pitching stories to media.
  • Experience working within the automotive category with established media contacts preferred.
  • Proven success cultivating and maintaining positive relationships with top-tier media organizations, including print, online and broadcast, to generative maximum media coverage.
  • Demonstrated results in developing and implementing successful programs and campaigns and successfully seeing stories through from the idea stage to placement in media.
  • Understanding of digital and paid media and the role it plays in a strategic media relations program.
  • Excellent interpersonal relationship skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint; Adobe InDesign and ExactTarget skills preferred.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in journalism, public relations, communications or equivalent field experience.
