Using the highest standards of customer service, the Quit Coach is a phone-based specialist who supports people in their stop-smoking process. Coaches are trained in the Quit for Life model, which has over 30 years of evidence based success. The Coach training is accredited by Council for Tobacco Treatment Training Programs (CTTTP), Positions in this function are responsible for participant-focused behavior. 

We are hiring Quit Coaches to work within our American Indian and Native American Quit Coach Program! We are looking for someone who has the ability to work on the phone for extended periods, ability to manage various technologies, has excellent active listening skills, potential experience working within the American Indian community, and high attention to detail.

A Quit Coach is a phone-based specialist who supports people in their stop-smoking process. Quit Coaches are trained in the Quit for Life model and will assist members as they call in to help make successful life changes. Coaches also provide support with proactive outbound calls to members. This is a call center environment, about 2 calls per hour. A Quit Coach will spend 6-7 hours on the phone.


In addition, our Quit Coaches are responsible for change services via the telephone to support participants' process to quit commercial tobacco use. Quit Coaches utilize participant-focused interventions, as well as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Motivational Interviewing to move participants along the change continuum to quit commercial tobacco.

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Provide participant-centered telephonic coaching services for the general population and specialized services for members of the American Indian population.
  • Speak with members (inbound / outbound) about Quit for Life program.
  • Offer telephonic support to our members continuously throughout the day.
  • Use an array of both oral and written communication skills to connect with participants/members.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor Degree in healthcare related field (Healthcare Administration, Psychology, Social Work, etc)
  • Must be able to work regular schedule, after training, between the hours of  7:00AM - 9:00 PM in Central Time
  • 2+ years commercial tobacco and nicotine free (includes all forms of nicotine including electronic cigarettes, chewing tobacco, cigarettes or any other form of commercial tobacco)
  • Must be able to create, edit, save and send documents utilizing Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Ability to navigate a PC to open applications, send emails, and perform data entry
  • Must reside in a location that can receive UnitedHealth Group approved high-speed Internet connection or can leverage existing high-speed Internet service
  • Demonstrated experience working with American Indian and Native American Communities
  • Understanding of and sensitivity to American Indian and Native American cultural, history, and contemporary issues
  • Understanding of cultural, spiritual, and commercial tobacco use within American Indian and Native American Communities
