Aiken Regional Medical Centers

Aiken Regional Medical Centers, located in Aiken, South Carolina, is a 259-bed acute care facility providing quality healthcare to the residents of Aiken and surrounding communities. Aiken Regional Medical Centers has been ranked a top hospital in South Carolina by the Carolina Center for Medical Excellence for its treatment of heart attack, heart failure and pneumonia. Services provided at the hospital include emergency medical care, orthopedic surgeries, maternity, and behavioral health services.

 

Radiation Therapist

Administers and records radiation therapy treatments using teletherapy equipment.  Educates patients, schedules daily treatment appointments, weekly patient check-ups and monitors and evaluates patient treatments by weekly verification of x-rays and weekly record checks.  Receives and returns phone calls from patients’ families, physicians and any medical facility regarding patient’s daily treatment.  Assists in simulation and block cutting procedures.  Maintains and submits report for departmental QA.

 

 Essential Job Duties:

  • Demonstrates the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to their age-specific needs.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge of the principles of growth and developments over the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to their age-specific needs.
  • Helps to ensure compliance with department and institution policies, procedure and regulations.  Performs the established standards of care on a continuous basis.
  • Operates radiation therapy equipment and administers radiation therapy treatments by assisting patients to treatment room, explaining procedure to patient, positioning patient and setting appropriate treatment parameters; setting prescribed daily dose, monitoring patient during treatment, and keeping accurate records of patient’s treatment.
  • Performs quality assurance measures of patient treatment by taking weekly verification x-rays of treatment set-up.
  • Performs quality assurance measures of patient by performing weekly chart checks of daily treatment charting.
  • Immediately reports all treatment errors and patient injuries to supervisor, Radiation Oncologist and Dosimetrist.
  • Monitors radiation therapy equipment daily for proper working order.  Checks daily calibration and reports any faulty or unusual readings to the Director and/or Physicist.
  • Receives/returns telephone calls from patients, families, physicians, other hospital departments and local hospitals regarding patient daily treatments.
  • Responds to other related duties as assigned in a timely manner producing quality results.
Job Requirements

Job Requirements:

  • Graduate of an approved radiation therapy certification program
  • 1 – 2 years' experience preferred. 
  • ARRT board certified; CPR certification.
  • Knowledge in Radiation Therapy principles and practices.
