Boulder Creek Academy is a residential therapeutic boarding school nestled in the beautiful Cabinet Mountains of Northern Idaho.  We pride ourselves on developing and implementing individualized academic and emotional programming for students 13-18 years of age while also supporting families with developing and sustaining lifelong strategies for the school and home environment.  The Boulder Creek Academy mission is to empower students and families to achieve excellence in personal growth, relationships, and lifelong learning.

Boulder Creek Academy currently has an opening for a part-time Reading Specialist in the Learning Center.  The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Serve as a faculty coach, instructor and resource regarding special education strategies.

  • Provide reading services to assist students in the areas of phoneme sequencing, spelling, reading fluency, reading comprehension and other ancillary Learning Center programs

  • Administer, interpret, and analyze assessments (i.e. GORT-4, WJ-III, DAR-3, LAC-3)

  • Review pre-admissions testing, develop and update individualized academic treatment plans

  • Proficient with a variety of research and evidence based programs addressing reading, preferably Lindamood-Bell program, V/V, spelling and vocabulary programs.

  • Follow behavioral management plans, policies and procedures and report occurrences timely.

  • Communicate student’s progress and challenges to Academic Director and academic faculty.

  • Participate fully in program rules, policies and expectations in dealing with students.

  • Responsible for Company and personal Service Excellence Standards

Job Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.


  • Must be 21 years of age per Idaho Licensing Requirements.


  • Proficient accuracy in phonemic awareness.


  • Demonstrated commitment towards quality education.


  • Knowledge of Multiple Intelligence theory and ability to deliver curriculum in multiple modalities.


  • Prior tutoring experience required.  Experience tutoring “at-risk” youth preferred.


  • In-depth knowledge of adolescent psychodynamics.


  • General knowledge of workplace and office safety, including ergonomics and video display terminal.


  • Occasionally lift and carry medium weight, 25-50 lbs.


  • Ability to touch, hear, see and speak corrected to normal range.


  • Regularly walk on uneven terrain such as rough, rocky, steep, muddy or snowy pathways. 

Schedule:  This is a part-time position starting at 16 hours per week  working on Monday and Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.


Salary:  The starting hourly wage for this position is $13.33 depending on education and experience.
